RE: Elk loads
I have listed this load here before. It is a killer on both ends. I shoot 120 grains of 3F blackpowder with a 525 grain cast bullet. I cast it from a 50 caliber RCBS Adjustable Hotchkiss Mold. The results are devastating to an elk. I do not know how much energy it generates, but I would have no problem shooting an elk at 200 yards with it. I have killed elk at 140 yards with this load. If you are recoil sensitive then DO NOT shoot this load. Tom. |
RE: Elk loads
My brother shot a cow elk last in NM last year at 126 yards with his Omega using the 250 grain shockwaves and 150 grains in pellets. The damage to the lungs and liver was awesome and the cow took 2 steps and fell over dead. I thought the combination was right on the money...you can go bigger if you want but in the end it is what you are truly comfortable in shooting. Good luck
PS:I got the same cow tag this year in NM that my brother had last year and I'm setting my Encore up for the same load he was shooting. |
