Scope Screws
I just bought some new Warne QD bases and rings for my new Savage 10 ML and I was wondering if you guys use any cement to hold the screws in the bases? What do folks use? Chap Gleason

RE: Scope Screws
I've never used anything until I got my muzzleloader this year. Everything I've owned has had a solid mount on the barrel. I used the blue lock tite for the scope rail on my CVA. For scope ring screws I don't use anything either and never had a failure. At the range when I have just mounted a new scope I just torque the screws a little after every few shots to make sure they stay tight.

RE: Scope Screws
Iuse lock tight. There are two formulas a blue and a red colored one. I forget now which one I have out in the shop now. But if you use that you are not going to get them back out. Which is why a lot of people do not like to use it. Another thing you can use is clear women's finger nail polish. Paint the screws and put them in. When it hardens they are there for good. If you ever want them out, you can take some mineral spirits and that will help to remove the screws again.

RE: Scope Screws
You can use Clear Nail Polish and remove it with Acetone. I always used my wife's nail kit!:):):)

I have 3 daughters...But I buy my own fingernail polish...The youngest thinks its a hoot that dad keeps it in his gun cleaning cabinet....Also, make sure that you clean the threads and screws with rubbing alcohol before putting nail polish on, if they are greasy it defeats the purpose...
This is also why I own a Ruger M-77...No hidden screws to worry about... |

I use the blue locktite I don't like to use the red because you can't get it back off with out heating it first;never had a problem with the blue. Lee

RE: Scope Screws
Loc-tite is great
Purple is for up to 1/8" screws and blue is for larger screws. Red is almost permanent. Redclub |

Chap Gleason When I talked to the Brownell's guy he read the descriptions and I believe I chose "low strength" but I know you guys talked aobut blue, red and yellow and I am not sure of the strength of what I have. The bottle doen't say either. Anyone know about LocTite 222MS Low Strength being acceptable for scope screws on a ML? Chap Gleason Va |
RE: Scope Screws
The color is the color of the liquid not the bottle. Low strength should be OK. Any can be released by heat but the red is definately dangerous as it can become very hard to remove.

RE: Scope Screws
blue loc tite is the stuff. the red is a little stronger but ive found it not that much harder to get the screw out. what ever you do make sure you dont get a drop of this stuff on a wooden stock. it will eat the finish off.
