Is .50cal enough for Elk?

Is .50cal enough for Elk? I assume I would need heavier bullet/powder setup but would it do the job?

Definetly,shot a 359" bull this fall with a Knight Disk rifle 300gr. Red hot pushed by 3 Pyro pellets.
