Shooting the New (used) E-bay Replacement Barrel
Well, the weather finally broke today and I was able to get out shoot the new barrel I got on Monday.
This barrel is really old, it is a "K" barrel (K3380), and it is a Douglas, but itdoes not even have "Renegade" stamped on it. As you can see the breech plug even has a clean-out screw and is not contoured as the normal TC breech plug is. It is one of those that can removed with a TC breech plug wrench if you wanted to. The bore did look good, not "unfired" as the seller thought, but I cleaned it all up and installed it in the stock - then waited for the weather - today was the day I would shoot it. I did bore sight it before I left for the rock pit because I did not want to take the time to sight it in - just wanted to shoot it. Well here are the results. There are 12 shots in there all told. So the barrel is probably a shooter, and with fiber optic sights I am sure I could tighten it up quite a bit. But when it is all said and done it really is not any better than the first factory barrel that I got off e-bay. So now this barrel will be relegated to become a project barrel. At some point I strip it and I will re-blue the whole thing. Possibly install new fiber optic sights, or even sale it - - just not sure and there is no rush... ![]() |

I would try some LMF browing chemical, slow rust brown and some say if you go with the instruction when the brown color is were you want in just drop into some boiled distill hot water and it will turn dark blue. Keep me in mind if you want to part that rear sight on th renegade,I am looking for a square rear notch sight that were on the older renegades |

Looks like the barrel off my first kit Renegade. It also is a good shooter. Nice shooting though for the first time out.

If I did that well with open sights - someone would have to revive me.

That's impressive Mike! ....but then, I'm easily impressed .......
So you've determined it is a 1:48? By looking down the bore? When were the first modern muzzleloaders equipped with that twist? Or, by really old, do you mean like 15 years....... [:o] |

I have know wayofknowing the dates or the years for sure... what i have pieced together is: Sharp Shooter has a Renegade I though he estimated to be 30 years old (his grandfathers I think), but it is a 28 inch barrel and a 1/66 or 60 twist - and again without Renegade stamped on the barrel. I BELIEVE but I do not know all short(27") Renegade barrels will be the 1/48 twist. And I guess I am estimating 15/20 years old. Cayugad or lonewolf might be able to pen it down a little closer. I was a little worried that this barrel might be a 1/66 twist when I bought it... I asked the seller but he was not a real help - he did not know either. |

I know I have at least one set if not two in the toolbox, besides the set on this new barrel, might even have one set on the 54 barrel... if you are interested maybe we could make a swap... I need a TC fiber optic rear sight. |

I thought the K in the serial number of T/C barrels ment they were kit rifles/barrels? My Hawkins is a k barrel and it was a kit gun.

Your assumption "K" equals kit is correct... although in the later years kit barrels were not stamped with the "K" |
