I deal with bicycle shops as I make some lubricant for the chains and some grease. In the travels I noticed a light that is intended to screw on the valve stem. It has both blue and red pulsing led lights. I measured the body of the light and it is .447in. There is a small hex that will have to be either filed or ground off but not a big deal. The whole light is less than an inch long and the threads for the valve stem could be ground off making is less than 3/4 inch long. The pulsing might be a little distracting but it pulses pretty fast. The set comes with two lights and four batteries that claim to be good for 8+ hours run time. They are so new that the price was not even available. I talked the shop out of one of the samples. I know the distributor and could probably get them from him. It is not much bigger than the Traditions one that does not last any time at all before it stops working. Will know more tomorrow after I grind the hex off and drop it down my Lyman or the T/C Hawken. You would likely be able to get them from your local bike shop soon. Yeah, what the heck is up with the quality control on these little drop in lights? Picked one up at the gunshop and after using 2-3 times after cleaning, stopped working. Found a replacement battery and still didn't work.
I guess by your post that this isn't a new thing.

Mine did the same thing. I don't know if the bulb goes bad or what but I could not find a bulb like that anyway. Changing the battery did not fix it. This one looks like it might last.

Cheap, could feed through a cleanout on a sidelock - any little hole. Most everyone has a mini-mag or similar light.

I use a traditons one and it is a LED green light. Very bright and seems fine. I use a bread tie after use to prevent it from getting knocked around and the brass screw from turning the light on.

Relative to the Bike valve stem light: I ground the hex off with my belt sander and also removed most of the threaded portion and the overall length is .80in. The pulsing leds are a little distracting but a lot better than no light at all. I really liked the Traditions light but the durability sucked. If I could replace the bulb it might still work. Anyone know where to look for a bulb?

Make your own with a clear LED from radio shack. Two short wires attached to a AAA battery.

I like that Fiber Optic lite that UC posted about, but Like mybendALite best since you don't need a mag lite.
