RE: Anyone shooting Black Powder shotguns?
I am going to order one of the Knight thumbhole camoed TK 2000 shotguns my self. Several friends have them for turkey and they love them. I love the bow and the ML just because of the one shot.

RE: Anyone shooting Black Powder shotguns?
Gotbuck, I did the same thing (bought the BPI 3-1/2" wads from Graf & Sons.) Wish I'd bought the shorter ones, though, because I know the 1.5 oz weighed shot I'm using doen't fill it up. In fact, I hit the edge of it with my ramrod, give it one more shove to get the card into the cup, and then turn the rod over to use the smaller end to gently push the card the rest of the way onto the shot (the big end gets stuck if I try to push it into the cup too far.) How much shot were you using? I had been shooting my 50 cal barrel, and then switched in my 12 ga barrel...and got a rude awakening. It's so much lighter, and the shot is much heavier. Got a nice purple place on my shoulder!

Not trying to hijack the TK2000 thread, but here's my 40 yard pattern with the Optima barrel, 1.5oz #5, and 90 grn APP 3F. I counted 170 pellets of the approx. 250 #5's in the load on this <2' x 2' newspaper.

Donw, I fill the cup all the way up to the top then put on the card. You can shoot up to 2 oz of shot in this gun which is the capacity of the wads I was using with the shot. It packs one hell of a punch and the smoke cloud is enormous, but it's only one shot. When I first shot this gun I too got the familiar purple patch that lasted at least a week only because I didn't firmly plant the stock in my shoulder. No turkey has a chance with this gun.

I use a Pedersoli double barrel from Cabela's and just love the thing. It is so much fun. As far as wads go if you want a smaller one try Winchester AA wads for reloading. They work great. I do have to remove the choke to get them in when I'm using full or X-full. They are pretty cheap too.

Yes those are the ones. A whole lot cheaper than buying packs of 15 or 20 from Knight. I use a load of 90gr American Pioneer 2f pushing 90gr volume #6 shot for turkeys. I use one full choke and one X-full. Someone on this site recommended them to me last year. One bag will last me a couple of years.

RE: Anyone shooting Black Powder shotguns?
My TK 2000 was delivered by UPS this morning. The finish and workmanship is excellent. I have always thought Knights ML were an excellent value. I guess the " easy clean " is a big thing to some folks. I know my BK 92 is the best shooter I have. It will be a little while before I can shoot the TK. Got to have a knee rebuilt. But I would like as much info on loads for turkey using the TK.
Have a good day! |

oldwun,
I sent a pm to you on what I use. Let me know if you got it.:) |
RE: Anyone shooting Black Powder shotguns?
I shot the TK 2000 today. It is pretty cool for here in hillbilly heaven but I just wanted to shoot it. I loaded up some loads recommended by someone here on HNI. The 110 gr load was an opener or I could say an eye closer. This sucker packs a punch!! The recommended load was using 80 -90 gr of Pyro. I have a 458 Winchester and it ain't got nothing on the TK. I am going to love this sucker.
