i dip a finger into the little bottle and i put a drop at the top, in the middle and at the end of the stock and i use 2 fingers and rub it in circle pattern untill the stock is coated and then i'll use my 2 fingers and start working it in long strokes and watch in the light for any drips, then i let it sit for maybe an hour to an hour and a half and while its still tacky, i'll add a thicker coat and then allow it to sit over night. After its good and dry i buff it lightly with 0000 steel wool and repeat it over again. On my last coat i didnt steel wool the stock, i let it sit for 2 days to fully cure and then i buffed it with stock sheen to take out the high gloss and any little bumps that were on it. I found that when i applied the first coat in a circle pattern and rubbed it in, i hardly got any sags or drips. Im happy with it now, but i just looked and it appears a little dog toe nail scraped against it and now i have to go and fix that part. [:@]

Don't know if you ever tried this method or not; but I have had good luck with the Tru Oil - wet sanding it into stock. Divide the stock into about six sections. Use #400 black wet/dry sandpaper. Put a couple drops of oil on a section and wet sand it, with the grain - using a piece of sandpaper about 2" square. When the oil starts to get sanded into the stock - maybe three minutes or so - then quit and wipe off the excess oil with a clean cloth - wipe with the grain. Let dry. Go to the next section. After about 20 coats, this method will fill the pores of the stock. Much better than just rubbing the oil in with your palm, although quite a few folks use the palm methodfor the final coat. I redid my old CVA a couple of years ago using Tru oil. I don't recall it taking more than 5 or 6 coats. Same with several self bows I've made. I applied mine with hand rubbing, that's bare hand, no cloth or anything, rubbing fast enough to really get the heat up where it almost burns the skin. It is a durable, beautiful finish. Maybe I'll try to upload a couple of pics.

The stock is beachwood so i dont have the issues with the pores like my old renegade did. Beachwood sands smooth with no pores. Thats good info on how to fill them, i'll keep that in mind and be sure to try it when i do have a stock that has deep pores. I'll have to get some pics of my brothers old cva hawken he redid last year, came out beautifully. Now has fixed sights rather than the click style. He actually suprised himself this year and shoots better with it now. Actually i take that back, we added a click adjustable rear sight from my traditions barrel and he file fitted a brass base/ silver blade fixed front sight. Very accurate gun for being 20 years old.
