I was given a hawmins 50 cal for x-mas It will not fire. I can pull the triger 35+ #. The set take up triger works but the set triger just goes click. no nrop to the nipple. any sugestions? It is a long time till ml season but i want it to work darn it. I love my inlaws but I should have gotten a tag with it with adisclaimer about some assembly required or repairs needed.(-:

snowtiger - I am not real sure about your problem. This is a Hawkins. Who makes it first off? It has a set trigger which is the back trigger. Will the hammer actually cock, lock, and set? And when you pull the front trigger, the hammer will not fall? And I getting the jest of all this?

sometimes a simple fix if the hammer will not fall is to loosen the screw that holds the lock plate to the side of the rifle. If they are cranked on too hard they can sometimes bind the parts in there and not let something drop. Like Lee said, don't force it. Was this a kit rifle?

I am going to make an assumption, and often that leads to problems... I am going to assume that it has a set trigger (two triggers in the trigger guard) the rear one being the set trigger) In between the two triggers is a small screw hanging down...??? The adjustment of this screw may give you the symptoms you are decribing... and as Cayugad suggested there may be a physical problem...
Let us know what trigger and what rifle you have...

the answer to all your questions.
yes the back trigger is the heavy triger set?. the front is the light kaboom trigger.
there are two screws yes the one in the middle of the assembly it does change the engagement point of the triger to the set trigger. that works fine. the problem apears to me that the lift on the trigger is not high enough to lift the lever holding the Fireing pin on the sear in the lock. If you take the side plate off the gun you see a bar sticking out that is moved vertical when the trigger is pulled. it goes up and the hammer falls and kaboom (in most guns but not this one.) you can pull the front trigger and it is verry hard like the rear one and it eventuly trips the hammer. I will try my hand at fixing the problem again tonight. thank you all for the help and the input on my little problem.
