Major changes, then the fun.

I changed the #11 fire system on my Remington 54 cal. to a cabelas 209 kit last spring. Late last week I did a trigger job on it so it has a nice break at 3 pounds. Most of My 700 center fires are at 2.5 pounds but it didn't feel right on the ML. Last spring I had issues with the 209 primers which were CCI's too. Decided to start from scratch looking for a load again.
Started at 80gr. T7 and win w209 primers. Same issue with the primers so switched to Rem. sts with the same results. Guess I'll live with the primer issue as it didn't seem to effect any thing.
80 & 90 grT7loads with TC orange sabots (slip fit)and 230gr. HP XTP's

100gr. T7 T/C orange sabots 230 HP XTP's . 7 thru 9 was with out swabing between shots. Apperas both my remingtons will group two shots nice with out swabing but better swab for 3d one.

These are the STS primers.

The issue is the center pops out of the primer. Shoot I could play around and load some small rifle /pistol primers in the thing I bet. But I won't waste the time fooling with it.
And this tool I bought at Gander mountian the last time I went is the cats meow. Beats the dime in a vice every time.

The primer issue that you speak of is not un-common shooting the Remington. I am using Reminton 209-4's - that is the old primer for 410 shotgun shells and I iften get the primer either partially or completely pushed out of the battery cup. It has never been a problem getting the rest of the material to fall out of the nipple. The way that nipple is designed I think the problem is inherent. The nipple is designed to reach all the way through the breach plug in fact to the end of the breech almost putting it self in the powder. Becuase of that and the fact that there really are no blow-back vents in the nipple the pressure has to go someplace - so often the primer is blown out of the cup - but the cup remains for the most part in the nipple.
I on occasion will get the whole assembly cup and primer pushed back out of the nipple caught between the nipple and the face of the bolt.
I am not really to concerned about this action, for as you know I am using a 20 guage shotgun casing as my weather shroud.... In all the years that I have been shooting theRemingtons (both of them) I have never replaced that plastic shroud - the has never been enough heat or pressure to blow one out.
I think you are in good shape - I touught the 209ofchoice for most people was one of the Winchesters - it is the coolest. The drive to get you to buy special 209's at a much higher price is in my mind a gimmick. They are cooler and should reduce crud in the breech as well as the barrel, but in most cases the regualr Winchester 209A should work just fine.
The regular STS primer that you show is really a pretty hot primer - used for 12 guage and up shotguns - even for 3 1/2" magnum shells.
Here is a discusion of 209 primers...

Since all my skeet and sporting clays shooting is with a 12 or 20ga. I buy my 209's usally CCI's or Remingtons by the brick usally four or five at a time. So I have thewin. w209's I used yesterday some Fedreal 209a's and the 100 STS remingtons I bought a couple weeks a go just to try. Since I figured out the priner seperating from the cup isn't a big deal I will use up the STS's then just use the CCI's that I get the best deal on.
I use the factory shroud that came with my Remingtons, even the used 50 had that shroud in the acc. bag.
How does your Remingtons group with out swabing?

I am useing the STS primers also, with really good results in an Apex. I tried the winchester ML primers and they did ok, then i found 5000 STS's i had for shotshells, they work really nice, no over pressure signs and nice accuracy. plus, lol, it is hard to justify buyin more primers when i have that many laying around.
