Default Casting Question

Calling all you ML lead projectile casting experts ... why aren't there any molds for projectiles similar to the Buffalo SSBs or Precision Rifles Extreme Elites?

as always thanks a bunch,
phil

You could get with mountainmolds.com and see if they could make whatever you want. They have an online design program that allows you to design the bullet and see a drawing of it.

Ok dmurphy317 ... thanks for the information. As usual I've bought way too many projectiles for my White UM to shoot off this year, but I'd like to check out casting some of the higher BC ones down the road.

Philnie, probably the most reasonably priced mould that would makea reasonable CONICAL for the UMag would be the one by Rapine at Buffalo Arms (custom moulds - .504). It's $80 but comes with handles I'm told. MtnMolds is kind of out of business until he gets his new shop set up. The other possible source (expensive) would be something from NEI.

You might also check with Dan at Bullshop to see if has any recommendations. I don't think it hurts his feelings to talk moulds. Also, you might ask over at http://castboolits.gunloads.com/- some pretty heavy duty casters post there.

I have not used this particular service. However, I do have a couple of custom-made ML bullet moulds. One is a .50 cal, 320-grain "Elmer Keith-style" semiwadcutter with a small base cavity and thick skirt walls I designedfor a .50 back in the days before there were any commercial bullets except round balls for use in muzzleloaders. I thought it might let me take shots I'd been passing up with round balls due to my imagination that balls didn't have enough penetration. I've since reconsidered this, at least as far as deer hunting is concerned.

Here's another maker..... http://www.hochmoulds.com/
