Yes, the secret to hitting things at extended ranges requires knowledge of two factors:

1. Distance to target
2. Trajectory of your rifle

Both require pratice! A. Range estimation; B. Shooting the gun!!

You know I was thinking the same thing. I posted the "can you ruin a bullets B.C.?" thread as a consequence of that confusion.Originally I didn't know his 78 yard elevation only zero (118 yds), 160 yard and 200 yards. I did get a BC to match those points (using a MVI though reasonable for the charge)but the 78 yard elevation wasn't as high as his range result. So it has to be lower velocity than one would suspect.

I haven't shot alot of powerbelts, but those I have, exited at lower velocity than comparable weight of lubricated all-lead conical. In my Sidekick, there was alot more friction with the bore. Don't know if this is the cause, contributes, or doesn't contribute to Redclubs puzzling, but verified, ballistics.

I have shot a lot of powerbelts and those are the actual drops shot out of
2 Omega's and my White is pretty close to that with 105gr T7 with a 460 NE.
2' high 77yds.
118 dead on
160 6' low 200 20" low.
I have shot this a lot and its always the same. I have these drops taped to the stock and while hunting I carry a range finder.

Yes, they are verified. Its just one would think that 120 grains and 348 would shoot alot flatter, at least to 160 yards, than 105 grains and a 460. It still puzzles me and I would sure like to know what velocities you are getting from each load.

One think I didn't consider and I don't know if it matters the 77 yard target is about 2to3ft. lower than the 118 yard target. The 160 yard target is also a couple of feet lower than the 200 yard target.
I have 2 backstops and 2 shooting benches thats how I get the 4 yardages.
I shoot over the low target to hit the high target. Confusing?I have a feeling that all ranges are kinda like this. charts might take into account a perfect level field.

Shooting uphill or downhill will cause the trajectory to be flatter. Imagine shooting straight down, the trajectory would have zero drop. Same effect if you shoot straight up.

The difference between 2 or 3 feet would not make a difference.

Small differences in angle as you described will not make any significant differences in the range to the target and therefore will not greatly influence the trajectory.

For your 460NE load, I sight in 3.5" high at 100 yardswhich gives a point blank range on an 8" target of 165 yards, zero at 140 and down 12" at 200 yards. This is with 90gr of 777 2F and a muzzle velocity of 1470.8" may be a bit wide for deer but I use it for elk and get 4" or less groups at 200 yards.

While I think the shockwave 300 grain bullet is a fine tool, I have been using the 250 grain version for the past couple of years and taken many deer with it.I have actually been able to recover 3 bullets from deer and theirterminal performance was great. The pictures can be seen in the thread at, http://www.huntingnet.com/forum/tm.aspx?m=1382997&mpage=1 I personally don't think, for white tail, you need the 300 grain bullet, but that is a personal choice.

What I do know that in my Encore, loaded with a regular winchester primer, 130 grains of loose 777 and a 250 grain shockwave, 200 yards is no problem at all. Using a lazer range finder to make sure of the yardage, my rounds shoot about 3 inches high at 100 yards 3 inches low at 150 yards and about 7 1/2 inches low at 200 yards. Groupsat 100 yards are almost cloverleaf and the drop as the distance increases is straight down verticle.

The only possible changes I might make in my setup this year is that I might try the 200 grain shockwave and/or the bonded shockwave. But, I really am not that excited to change anything.

I tried the Bonded Shockwave andthe regular ShockwaveSabotsboth 245 grain out of my Apex with 777 Pellets 100 grain and they shot exactly the same at 100 yards
