I asked the same question about Cabelas Alaskan Guide scopes on another forum and this is the answer i've gotten so far.

Very good....at least that is word from numerous sources.

I know a professional target shooter that has one on his 2000$+ Cooper rifle, he loves them....

It would help for people to answer if you would put a price tag on what your looking for.

I know what you mean about 56 yr old eyes also.

New is always an attractive alternative, BUT, I have found out a couple of things over the past 50 years of shooting black powder rifles:

A. Any decent rifle scope that can be used on a MODERN breech-loading rifle can be used on a muzzleloader, and;

B. Many vintage scopes which were perfectly satisfactory for guys like Jack O'Connor, Warren Page, P.O. Ackley, Elmer Keith, and other deceased gentlemen, are still OK despite the "progress" in the optical field that has been made in the last 30 years or so.

For example, the steel-tubed Weavers, both the K- and J- models, work well on muzzleloaders. Another good choice is the Lyman All-American 2.5X or 4X, and better yet, an All American with a post & crosshair PERMACENTER reticle. I have two sidelocks with these scopes on them. Got 'em off of e-Bay for under $50.00 each........
