ORIGINAL: roundball ORIGINAL: sproulman i hate MAXI-HUNTERS in my .50 cal hawkins. |
RE: thompson center hawken
ORIGINAL: sproulman "...is that .45 a 1-48 twist?..." I'veoften thoughtif I could only keep one rifle, it would be a.45cal x 1:48" barrel...they're extremely accuratewith both the 128grn/.440 Round Ball and the 255grn Maxi-Hunter...throttle back the .440 with 30grns Goex for a small game and target load...up to the good size maxi-hunter for big game...that's a lot of versatility |
RE: thompson center hawken
great info here guy's
many thanks; the T/C's seem a bit pricey, but i was curious. sometimes products are priced higher for good reason (wich still may be the case) but the QLA dosen't sound like the thing that makes it stand above. early |
RE: thompson center hawken
Thompson Center might be a little more expensive then many of the other rifles, but I personally think they are worth it. When you look at a rifle check more then just the price tag. Granted that might be the driving factor for many of us, and with good reason, but you need to look at such things as; customer service, customer satisfaction, overall product quality breaking it down to parts, such things as stock to hardware fit, overall general appearance of the rifle, functioning ability of the rifle, and last resale value of the rifle. When you start to compare Thompson Center Arms rifles to other makers, they generally come out ahead and for little extra.
I've bought a number of rifles from auction sites. So far, I have been very lucky and all of them were as good or better then they were advertized to be. If you want to save a few dollars, you can pick up some excellent older model and new in the box, Thompson Center products for hundreds under their current list price. I picked up two Renegades for $150.00. One of the rifle I swear has never been shot it was so clean. My Thompson Center Hawkins Flintlock I got for $200.00 and it also is in perfect condition. My last Thompson Center .50 caliber cap lock Hawkins I got for $225.00 and it still had packing grease in the barrel. There are some good deals out there if you can find them. You need to look close at the adds, ask lots of questions, and read the reviews of the sellers. If they have bad reviews I shy away from them even if they are a good deal... |
