My First Omega Report
It arrived by UPS 2:10 this afternoon. I did open it and look at it BUT I did make myself go back and finish my school work and gather some tax information.
But, here it is 8:00 pm all my, most of my chores are finished so I did get to check it out. Triple Se7en is correct, the laminated stock really could be slick in wet weather but i think that might be an easy work-around. The next thing I really like, 28" barrel but a really short rifle, the gun the stock fit and feel great. Cleaned the whole thing up and then I got to playwith it a bit.I removed the breech plug and started pushing things through. To my surprise, everything I have went through just fine with just ram rod pressure. No short starter required. .451 & .452's in all the variety of sabots that I have. .452's in an HPH-24 worked just fine,.452's in Harvesters, .452's in Noslers all of them insert in the QLA place Ram rodon top and push - Great... Next step .458's and a MMP HPH Orange sabots - not a problem pushed through one long stoke. Finally 10mm MMP-HPH-50/40sabots. I really was set for a disappointment here - but not to be - insert pushed right on through. I am a happy camper. No sign of the wash-board barrel problem that some people have reported. Now, I really do wish it were Friday and I could wake up to it being Saturday tomorrow so I could go shoot it. My scope base should be here this week also so I'll will have to go sight it in this weekend - rain-snow-cold -what ever... I am excited about this gun. First report completed... |
RE: My First Omega Report
I'd of opened the back door, turned on the yard light and let a few rounds rip! :D Just kidding. Glad to see that the rifle is nice and fits well. Also glad to hear you have a good tolerance to your loads. I will be waiting for your shooting reports.
I'm so glad I do not have one of them.[&o] Shoot a round or two for me... |
RE: My First Omega Report
Congrats on your new friend, as I have stated I really love my Omega and am really looking forward to some reports on how all those different sabots and projectiles function for you.

You know I was thinking about that very thing last night, in fact I took a couple of pictures I was going to share with you. The trigger/trigger guard - Whenthe gun is not cocked you can not get even your bare finger in there very easy - when it is cocked it is not a problem at all. I did put a pair of snowmobile gloves on last night and gave that a try - while I might wish for a little more room it was adequate - I could hunt with it. I think a lot of the problems stem from the fact that you can not get on the trigger while the gun is in the safe position... I'll get to find out this weekend.... |
RE: My First Omega Report
Getting a new gun is like getting a new girl friend or just getting married. In all cases you spend a lot of time fondling your new playthings. Gona sleep with it tonight...huh. Just kidding, I was the same way a month ago when I got my Encore. Been married 15 years so had to fondle something....oops, was that out loud.
