sabotloader,do you happen to know
sabotloader ,Do you happen to know the B.C. for 50/40 - 200gr and
the 10mm hp 200gr? I assume that with the same load and the same sabot they also will come out of the muzzle at 2450;I am wondering about how much differance the plastic tip makes. I just pick up 100 10mm XTP and a couple bags of the 50/40 blue sabots at the gun show. I think they are very simalar. Lee |

RE: sabotloader,do you happen to know
If you have questions on any of the Hornady projectiles you can go to https://www.hornady.com/shop/ then into the muzzleloader section. From there pick a caliber and you can look up most any of their projectiles. At the projectile site there is a full listing of the ballistics and sectional density of the projectile in an additional pop up screen...
You can also purchase from them I believe too. |

You can order then direct from Hornady, but I am sure you can get them cheaper on line someplace. The part I hate whether I order the SST or the Shockwave I moght end up throwing the sabot away. The SST SHOULD come with an HPH-12 and the Shockwave should come with a HPH-24. I am shooting the 10mm 200 XTP - (without the plastic tip) - I believe the basic bullet is the same. It really does shoot well, I just got back from some shooting. With 110 grains of T7-2f I was shooting them @ 2050fps from the muzzle. I have posted a ballistic page for both bullets on here someplace. |
RE: sabotloader,do you happen to know
Sabotloader-The SST is the same bullet as the XTP,with the tip added.I saw poly tips for sale on a website that I cannot seem to find now. Would be fun trying to install your own tips. Cant buy SST's in bulk.
For Lemoyne-You can buy .45cal 200gr SST's and change sabots to MMP Blue 40/50.Might be OK if you also shoot a .45. I sent for the free Hornady 2006 catalog-Real nice. It lists everything they make. Charlie |

I really may have mislead you a bit on the 200 XTP. It is basically the same bullet as the SST/SW but it is tapered a bit more to allow the placement of the Polymere tip. The tip is placed into the cavity and besides adding BC it is suppose to aid in controlling the mushroom. This is a Nosler but the Hornady is built close to the same way. Hope this helps explain what I ment. ![]() |
RE: sabotloader,do you happen to know
If anybody comes across the web sight that has those tips I would like to try that.
sabotloader,That is a very interesting bullet pic. I wonder if the plastic tip adds to penatration? Lee |

It is a very tough Polymere palstic - It is suppose to aid penetration sometimes to much at closer ranges. With it's velocity and durability at close range it can pass right through and not get a lot done. But at longer ranges it is suppose to be really good. I doubt that you will find the tips anywhere - if you look at the pic a portion of the tip is inserted into the lead. As the tip is driven back it starts the mushroom of the copper and the shank into the lead will start it mushrooming. I am just disappointed that Hornady does not offer these bullets to reloaders as it does somany of their bullets. Here is some info to go along with the pic.. Ballistic Tip® Hunting In a perfect world, there would be no changing winds, no hunting pressure, no wary, spooked, or running game that might require a fleeting or distant shot. And all it would take to bring down that trophy buck would be a textbook 100 yard broadside shot. Fortunately for us, the real world of hunting is a bit more challenging than that. In fact, the more you hunt, the more you realize how unpredictable and unforgiving nature can be--which is why we engineered the Ballistic Tip® Hunting bullet to be very predictable and extremely forgiving. 1. The Ballistic Tip® Hunting bullet's polycarbonate tip resists deformation in the magazine and initiates expansion upon impact. 2. Fully tapered jacket and special lead alloy core allows controlled expansion and optimum weight retention at all practical velocity levels. 3. Heavy jacket base acts as a platform for large diameter mushroom. 4. Ballistically engineered Solid Base® boat tail configuration combines with the streamlined polycarbonate tip for extreme. hope this info helps |
