Question on Musket Caps

I have a T/C hawken. It uses no. 11 caps. If I wanted to use Musket Caps, what would I need to do to convert and where do I get what I would need?

Would it be worth it?

Happy Hunting, Phil

RE: Question on Musket Caps

Change the nipple to a musket nipple is all that is required, but I don't think it's required.

Frankly I've never needed a musket cap after tens ofthousands of shots

RWS Dynamit-Nobel #1075 caps. Exceptional performance.

Just keep the nipple clear with a nipple pick every few shots more or less depending on how fouling a powder your shooting.

Just curious but what powder are you shooting?

RE: Question on Musket Caps

I shoot Goex 3f and recently Pinnacle 3f. Planning to try the BlackMag3. Was thinking, maybe, the Musket cap would be better for igniting Pinnacle and BM3 in the hawken.

I communicated with Speer/CCI about this very question they really did not supply me with all the details or the information I wanted but....

CCI #11 are cooler than any cap
CCI #11 Magnum caps are at the same temp as the Musket cap, but are a little short on duration - essentiall no difference between the two.

Went to Cabelas to look for 'em and they don't have 'em. Can you or Taqhuamenon recommend where to order them?

Thanks, Phil

I was thinking about doing the same thing. I decided to go with RWS Dynamite-Nobel #1075 caps. I need to shoot off the cap of CCI then I will swithch. Are the 1075 + caps hotter or different?

I have a T/C hawken. It uses no. 11 caps. If I wanted to use Musket Caps, what would I need to do to convert and where do I get what I would need? A musket-size nipple with the correct threads for your nipple seat.

Would it be worth it? NO. They claim that musket caps are hotter-not in my experience. Happy Hunting, Phil
Phil, if you want hotter, get a MAGSPARK primer adapter for your rifle and use No. 209 primers. These work!

I use musket caps, but just because they are easier to handle for me.

I agree-they are easier to handle-especially with cold, stiff fingers!
