I would "NOT" use steel wool[:@] It will ruin the S.S. matte finish.
I'd try using Triple Se7en suggestions 1st and if that doesn't work you can always try this.
I've cleaned several S.S. barrels using a bead blaster that we have at work. You have to know what you're doing and I don't suggest using a sand/glass typebead blaster.
We have a mold shop where I work and they have special beads that they use to clean molds with out damaging the metal surface.You have to keep the air pressure to a minimum, but it can be done.
If you know of a local shop they maybe able to help you.
