350gr/2900fps Muzzy?!?!?!?!?!

I saw an ad in a hunting magazine for a muzzle loader that claimed 2900fps with a 350gr bullet. I was astounded by this number and looked through my reloading manuals to see which cartridge this was the closest to matching. You'd have to go up to the 460 Weatherby Mag to get that kind of performance out of a center fire rifle. The 378 Wby Mag only shoots 300 grain slugs and 2900 would be around it's hottest load with the bullet thats 50 grains lighter than this muzzle loader shoots. Does anyone know anything about this gun. It's got to be pretty painful to shoot, as well.

It was my mistake. It's a 300 grain bullet at 2900fps.

What is the gun called...or what is the company? I'd like to look it up.

I would like to know what rifle and what magazine. The savage can shoot smokeless powder and the fastest load they show for it is 2330 fps. That is with 43 grn of IMR smokeless powder and a 250 grn hornady bullet.

I can't see 2900fps with a 350 grn bullet, especially with a black powder substitute. My gun with 100 grn of 777 fffg only gets around 1600-1700 fps with a 350 grn bullet. I can't imagine how much powder you would have to use to get that kind of velocity. I honestly don't think you could do it. If you put that much powder in there I doubt it would all burn so it wouldn't do you any good. If I did I highly doubt it would be accurate.

I looked at some load data for 150 grns of smokeless and bullets over 300 grns and none of them even broke the 200 fps mark. I'm going to search for this rifle and see if I can find it. It is going to have to be with smokeless powder, and the only one I know of is the savage.

I found this on a search

Pretty impressive, but not 2900 fps with a 350 grn bullet. I would still have to see it to believe it. I'll keep looking.

My guess is that it is the Ultimate Firearms BP Xpress. I have one, and it will do some high velocities using 200 gr Pyrodex and 300 gr SSTs. As far as accuracy, the gun is SUPER accurate with this load.

Guns like this have a way of creating new fish and game regulations.
