knight LKII (help)
Hi i just bought a knight lkII. I didnt get the manual with it. It uses #11 caps and it has a timney trigger. That is all i know about it. i tried 90 and 100 grains of pyrodex and it is shooting all over the target. im shooting rws caps and the knight sabots with 240 grain bullets and swabing between shots. It is shooting(spraying)at least 13 inch spread . Any help would be great. thanks

dem4570,
We are all here to help out, but you need to give us more information. What yardage are you shooting from, with or without scope, swabing technique, condition of the bore, your shooting experienceetc. |
RE: knight LKII (help)
dem4570,
I forgot to mention that you need to call Knight and have them send you a manual.....VERY IMPORTANT!;) |
RE: knight LKII (help)
I have the same rifle. I shoot 85 grains of Goex 3f and a 240 grain XTP as my one load. Another one is 100 grains of Goex 2f and a 250 grain Barnes Expander. Both of these shoot real well. I do have a scope mounted on mine and I also use the Dynamite Noble 1075 caps. Nice shooting rifle.
Is this new or used? |
RE: knight LKII (help)
I was shooting 100 yards. with a 3 X 9 bushnell, and swabing with 50-50windex and alcohol mix one damp patch and two dry patches between shots. i have been muzzleloading for 11 years on and off but with a sidelock gun with patched round balls.

RE: knight LKII (help)
it is a new gun. stainless

RE: knight LKII (help)
Maybe that's the problem.. its new and stainless. Sometimes those stainless take longer to break in. Sounds like a great rifle you have there and a good set up. I shoot the 240 & 300 grain XTP's with Knight or MMP sabots, or Barnes Expanders, but they are expensive. I have also been shooting some Shockwaves and they seem to be shooting well, although I have not got back to long distance with it yet.
I have been shooting a new stainless barrel on my Renegade and I finally took and scrubbed the bore with some J-B Bore Paste because it was eating all the cleaning patches it was so ruff.. Knight will tell you to shoot 100 grains of Pyrodex and Knight Red Hot Sabots. Those I think are made by Barnes and again, they are expensive to shoot... Good luck with the rifle. Keep us posted. |
RE: knight LKII (help)
dem4570,
You didn't mention the condition of the bore.Check the scope base/rings and make sure that they aretight. Did you use loctite onthe base screws, how old is your powder. What kind of groups were you getting vertical/horizontal or all over the dang place. If you know your powder is good, I'd try different projectiles 1st. Cayugad has this same rifle and the loads he gave are excellant loads to try. This is your 1st post.....Welcome:) |
RE: knight LKII (help)
the bore feels good as far as running patches threw it. And my powder is a new can. i went yesterday and bought a another can. I double checked the rings on the scope and i put glue on all the screws (loctite). This is a great forum i have been reading on here for a month and a half i just never posted anything. lots of great info. thanks for all your help.

RE: knight LKII (help)
Also it was shooting all over the place

RE: knight LKII (help)
dem4570,
I never put loctite on the ring screws, just a drop of loctiteon the base screws after you've cleaned the threads out on the receiver and the threads of the screws. You said you dbl. check the ring screws, but didn't mention the screws on the base. What type ring/base set up do you have? Are you consistant with your seating pressure? Is this a new or used scope? If you know everything is good to go, all you need to do is find the correct load. I'm very fond of the Barnes bullets and I've had good results with Power Belts and the Precision Dead Centers. I haven't shot Pyrodex R/S for awhile, but when I did I always made sure that I mixed the powder up. The fine stuff makes it way to the bottom of the jar and it will shoot differently than the larger granules on top. I'd be interested if anyone else has experienced this with Pyrodex too. |
RE: knight LKII (help)
It is a new scope actually the second new scope. this is the third weekend of me messing with this gun. it was shooting so bad that i thought the scope was bad. i took it off and exchanged it for another one. That was the first weekend. then i tried it last weekend and found a loose mount. it has knight base and millet rings. i have never put loctite on the rings before either. i have the same rings on a 300 mag no problems. so maybe tonight i will tear it down and check the bases. but they were loctited in place from the git go. as far as how much pressure im putting on the bullet when seating it im sure that i could use some help there. ill try that tomorrow.

RE: knight LKII (help)
dem4570,
You can use a bathroom scale for checking out your bullet seating pressure. I was going to post a picture of a bullet seating gage I made at work years ago, but someone ran off with my digital camera :(.....maybe later. Consistant seating pressure is important when you use loose powder. Some powders are more pressure sensitive than others. I usually seat my projectiles with 50lbs. of pressure. Something else toconsider, is what are you using to seat your bullets. Are you deforming your projectile with the jag you're using? I assume that you are using a good solid rest/sandbags and not off the hood of you truck. |
RE: knight LKII (help)
i will start fresh tommorrow, i was wondering how little or much powder i should start with just for the sake of experimenting. i think the max for my side lock was 120 but 90 gave me good results. how far down would you go 70 or 80 i want it to hit hard at 100 yards. but i do know being a reloader that i need to feed the gun what it likes how low would you go?
|
RE: knight LKII (help)
I would start the loads out at 80 grains and work my way up from there. Even 80 grain of Pyrodex with a 240 XTP will still push 1500+ fps which will thump them just fine out to 100 yards if the accuracy is good. Do you have a 22" barrel on that rifle like mine?
|
RE: knight LKII (help)
dem4570,
Using the Knight Balllistic Guide, a 90gr. charge with your 240gr. bullet will give you 1242fp @ the muzzle and 963fp @ 100yds. The general rule of thumb is 1,000fp of energy, but bullet placement trumps it in my book. You may want to try someTriple 7 powder, it'll cost you a little more $$, but I heard that money was no problem for you LOL:D |
RE: knight LKII (help)
yes it does have the 22" barrel. im headed for the range tommorrow thank you for the help guys. ill let you know what happens.
|
RE: knight LKII (help)
I never had luck with those lead bullets that knight sends out. Try some tighter sabots. Maybe some 250gr barnes expanders. Or hornady .44 XTP.
|
RE: knight LKII (help)
i dont know what make bullet they are but they are 240 grn jacketed hollow points they are not the wad cutter bullet.
