Default SS Barrel still pits!

I have a Encore SS .50 cal muzzleloader. I had the .50 barrel off and was in my basement. Well our basement flooded while we were on vacation and the barrel got wet. Six days later we came home to find the mess. I laid the barrel on the self and started to clean the basement up. About a two weeks later I remember that my barrel got wet and needed clean. I swap the barrel and removed the breech plug. And what would you know the barrel pitted at the end of the barrel. Probably the last 3" inches of the barrel has rust pits in it. I thought the SS grade TC used was rust resistant?

Is the barrel done or will it be ok?

My understanding was stainless steel does rust.. it just takes it a little longer to do so. As to whether the barrel is ruined, well the easy way to find out is go shoot it.

It's calles stainLESS steel not stainproof steel.

Most likely it is not hurt much if at all. Give it a good scrubbing with bore brushes and solvent and most likely you will be fine.

Likementioned try that first, if itfails you can try working some JB bore paste. I picked up a 308 from my bro in laws family that was rough. I tried the traditional cleaning and when that failed I broke out the JB bore paste which took care of thetrouble spots.

SS Barrel still pits! [/b]

Yes, it does! SS rusts a lot more slowly than regular barrel steel, but it will still rust!
