RE: action type
ORIGINAL: DannyD Thanks fellas. Well sounds like a break open may be the way to go. So now let's talk guns. If possible in my price range, I'd like to get a rifle without the BPI barrel. I'm not convinced they are not safe but I'd like to take as few chances as possible. Now for a twist. I received a $250 gift certificate to Walmart as a gift to get the gun. So i'm limited to purchasing it there. Im going to have to use open sights until i can save up for a scope so it looks like this year will be an open sight hunt. I saw a TC Black Diamond Express in Camo for $249. Comes in a kit with some cleaning products etc. But I don't think it is a break open. I saw a TC Omega for $269 but was on lunch today and didnt have time for anyhone to show it to me so I don't know the exact model of the Omega. It was up pretty high and I couldnt see much. Any advice would be helpful in choosing a gun |
RE: action type
ML,
I got them to take it down. It was the Z5. Looking around on some web sites it's a good price at $269. Hope to have it in the next few days. Then I'll have about 2 months to get it ready for season. Cayugad, Thanks fo the info. Looks like I have some shopping to do. Fortunatly I now have a list |
RE: action type
The omega z-5 has the different sights & the breach plug is stainless steel . The walmart in N.H. is selling them for $289.The black & ss is the z-5.

RE: action type
I just put a omega z-5 on layaway for christmas.(it was easier to talk the wife into letting me get another rifle if I got as a christmas present).

RE: action type
So all that is different is the sights, a different style breech plug (which could be changed easy enough) and a less then bowling ball finish on the barrel.. for that kind of savings, I think you folks made an excellent choice.

RE: action type
Iactually like the idea of a ss breach plug, and i'll put a scope on it anyways, plus I work p/t for walmart(10% discount ).

RE: action type
Does anyone really know that the breechplug is different? I believe all the Omega breechplugs are stainless and really could not believe that T/C would make such a minor change in the rifle anyway. I think the only difference is the barrel finish and the slightly cheaper sights. I think it is mainly a marketing thing since there are so many cheap rifles out there T/C decided to make a few minor changes and market the Omega at a lower price for the economy minded and the laminated stock stainless ones for the guys that want to spend more money. It sure is a lot of rifle for the price. My stainless camo stock Omega cost a lot more and I still love it.

RE: action type
I was looking at 2 omegas, one the z-5 model the other a regulal model(blue/black comp.),they didn't look that much different, but the breech plug on the reg. model was either blue or black &the z-5 model was silver in color(stainless steel)& the sight on the z-5 was shorter.I didn't notice any difference in blueing.

RE: action type
I picked up the Z5 friday night. I want to thank all of you guys that helped me decide on this gun. I have watched the DVD that comes with it a few times. Between that and the advice i see here I'll have a pretty good start. I probably won't get to fire the gun for a week os so. but i am looking forward to it.
This will give me enough time to get used to it, sight it in and hunt with it during muzzloading season. Dan |
