Hot Shot Nipples
#4
I use Stainless Steel Hot Shot Nipples on all my sidelock rifles. Uncle Mike I think makes the Hot Shot Nipple and they also make them for Thompson Center and probably everyone else.
There is no change in POI because the burst of flame from the #11 cap is so small in the first place that these Hot Shot Nipples really make no difference in that department. Where they do make a difference is they direct the flame a lot better then some of the factory nipples you find out there. They also split the cap so the cap is easier to remove from the nipple after they are fired. They also clean up a lot better and since they are stainles steel, they last much longer then some of the factory ones out there on the market.
If you're having ignition problems with your sidelocks, switch over to a Hot Shot Nipple... it might make all the difference in the world.

I've never used them. Same goes for changing to a musket nipple. Not needed.
Thousands of successful shots and still countingwith the standard nipple on T/C Rifles.
The hot shot came about really for use with Pyrodex (becuase of the highflashpointof Pyrodex)and also for inlines with nipples to ensure more reliable ignition.
I'm not personnally a Pyrodex fan.
Swiss Black Power in 3FG, 777 3FG and Black Mag'3 all shoot excellent with T/C Caplocks and the standard nipple.
Also, RWS Dynamit/Nobel #1075 caps. Best I've ever used.
If you keep the flash channel and nipple clear by picking on occassion, you should not have any ignition issues.
IMHO

I think all of the model now come with them. Perhaps some of the older ones did not. My Black Diamond XR has one, my Knight Wolverine has one, my Knight Disc has one, and my new Renegade, all have them.

bigcountry,
If your speaking of the "Hot Shot" nipple used in sidelocks with the 2 pin holes in side of nipple - they do not change POI. They were designed to eliminate ignition problems in sidelocks - they did just that! I installed one in my CVA side lock(1st smoke pole) about 18 yrs ago. I had the occasional ignition problem(using FF BP). After installing hot shot nipple I never had another ignition problem. Yrs ago they were probably the single hottest, cheapest thing to come out for improving sidelock ignition.Stores couldn't keep em on the shelf.
