tomarrow is the day i HAVE to shot my flinter.....only day left to do it before hunting next saturday.....i had troubles with my ramrods and college...finding the time to do it...and i broke and bent ramrods....and wanted one tapped for 10-32 on both ends...made of fiberglass...so i bought one tapped for 10-32 on just one end....the other end was ment to be nothing......so i had my buddy(going to school part time to be a machinist) mill me a end for the other end out of brass tapped for 10-32 threads...cut the fiberglass and drill it...and put it in there so it CANT come out.....my buddy knows his stuff...im going to college right now to bea mechanical engineer actually.....i drew him up a drawing real quick...labeled it...added the dimensions...wrote down what needed done and where at....and then went over it in person with him....showed him examples on my old rods.....he didnt read the drawing or listen the first time lol....he handed me a rod 4 inches to long with a hole in the end and a brass insert!...gave it back and had him redo it...he got the brass end in there with a nice brass pin...it isnt going anywhere!! love it now!!....but tomarrows weather looks like it MIGHT rain...if it dont rain it may be sticky and humid.........but its also going to cool off ALOT...tomarows high is the low of right now lol.....so the humidity might not be bad......i wont shoot in a downpour being i have no range to goto...i shoot in my friends hay field....but if i zero my gun and go out next saturday and its thesame temp but not humid or wet will it effect my groups??? my charges wont stay in the gun longer then a minute tomarow.......not time to effect it i dont think....and i clean thoroughly before each shot when sighting in.......will i be ok?? i think i worry too much!.....but i read so many post that ahhh it was humid i couldnt get a group....it was wet out so my bullet flew over the deers back........i dont want to sight in if it wont be on when im hunting!! what do you think?? thanx alot...........i dont know how bad it will be tomarow...i know it rained all day today...some misty rain...then stopped...but tomarow calls for a chance of rain early in the day...so who knows..thanx guys...im pumped.....and hopefully my spot works like it used to on the first day of rifle season for me and dad....and hopefully i can be dragging my 2 does out of there next saturday.....that would be awesome...my first deer with a flintlock....and then a double!! but i havent hunt there in a year or 2...so i dont know what it will be like......alot of herd reduction in PA the last few years.....but the area i hunt is 10kacres and most of it is a GIANT thicket(old clear cut)...awesome deer hunting the past few years though...so we will see.....

Sounds like you're shooting black powder? Your equipment should include a cows knee to cover your lock. Failing that,a plastic lunch baggie will work if you can keep it in place. Now I see you're a college kid so you probably have a supply of condoms around, or know where to get one. Place it over your barrel to seal out moisture, and you can shoot right thru it. A small balloon will also work. Good luck next week.

lol i have a cows knee.....and condoms if needed lol....i am shooting goex BP...i can shot in the rain no problem.....i just wanted to know if my groups and POI would be the same in damp conditions as it would be on a dry crisp fall day....i went shooting today and couldnt get it to group worth crap....has to be the weather and inconsistancy of the bore......i was using my truck as a loading area.....but by the time id get back there the fouling was drawing moister already......looked like tar...didnt have any misfires or major problems........just not a day to sight in a flintlock!!.....i was getting them all on the paper with just a litttttttle tiny drizzle.......but when i was ready to fine tune it and get it zeroed it started to pour.......so i packed up and got out of there........hopefully tomarow i can get it sighted in......if not ill have to find a place to shoot up at school or come home for a day or something.......i gota get it shooting good by saturday!!! i was impressed with myself being able to get the gun to fire consistantly in such poopy conditions.......tomarrows another day......i hope!
