Im looking at getting either a tc omega or a traditions pursuit pro? what are the pros and cons of each?

Both are great rifles.Both will get the job done. Although do some price checking. The T/C Omega in many places has come down in price to make it very afforable. Of course the Pursuit will be less money in almost all cases still.

The Omega is a Thompson Center. It has American Steel, and American craftsmanship. They have excellent fit and finish. They also have outstanding customer support. The Tradition's Pursuit is a Spanish BPI barrel, but they too are well made, have a great customer support and will get the job done.

I guess I would look at it this way, if this was the only black powder rifle I would ever buy or one that I would really need to depend on and pass down to future generations, then I guess I would be inclined to spend the extra money for the Omega.

Everything Cayugad mentioned... plus better out of-the-box accuracy (most cases) and much better lifetime waranty with the Omega. It's the most-preferred inline ML on almost every board I visit. One poster here recently has serious issues with his Encore... but those are very few & very far between with T/C.

I was in Dick's Sporting Goods yesterday and they had a T/C Omega Stainless barrel thumbhole camo for $ 399.00. That's the cheapest I have seen that gun.

I boughtan Omega.50ca.S.S. Camp Thumbhole from Dicks Sporting Goods last week. The 1st time to the range I had it printing < 1", 5 shot groups @ 100yds. Using 110grs. of Triple 7 FFg and the 289gr. Rem Solid Copper bullet. Do you thiink if I showedthe target to rochelleit would be enough to convincehim to buy an Omega vs.Pursuit?
I've never posted a picture before, but I'll see what I can do. I can shoot better than I can get around on a computer!

I'm learning as I go.....hopefully this will upload the picture of my 2nd, 5 shot group with my Omega @ 100yds. It scares me that this isn't going to work....when I preview the picture I uploaded isn't showing??

Very impressive Encoreman. I just bought the Omega also. I bought the stainless non-thumbhole laminated. I am very happy with mine. Mine also grouped very well out of the box with 250 shockwaves in front of 100 grains of Pyrodex pellets. It was 95 degrees outsidso as long as it was close enough to hunt I was ready to call it a day.

What primers did you use? There hasbeen alot of talk about the crud ringcaused with triple 7. Did you have any problems?

I have 2 Omega's.... the one Idescribed in previous threadand the other is a .45cal. S.S. laminated like yours. They are both shooters! I use Winchester primers and "yes" I get a crud ring using 777. It's not bad as long as you use short strokes towards the bottom w/damp patch. I clean between each shot.
I don't know why, but I haven't had much luck using the the shockwaves or SST's.....must be me?? When I do shoot them, I have better luck with the 300gr.bullets.
Have you tried the 777 pellets out of your Omega?

Considering the "crud ring", do the benefits of the 777 outweight the Pyrodex pellets enough that I should shoot them right from the get-go? I'm getting my Omega tomorrow and am totally open to any help.
