Default How much powder do you use?

Curious as to how many actually use a 150 grain load out of thier muzzle loaders. is that magnum load worth the extra recoil in yor opinion ?

Terry, I have tried going higher than 120 grs of Pyrodex or 110 grs of T7, but it always seems my accuracy drops off once I get hotter. I have always settled in the 100-120 gr range as it is plenty enough charge for my hunting needs and accuracy over speed has always been my thing.

Tell you the truth I have never had problems with the ML's recoil, unlike Cf's (shoulder problems). It is a more a push than jolt to me any way.

A lot of the amount of powderloads I used depends on the kind of powder. It also depends on the kind of projectile that I will be shooting. Some projectiles can be pushed harder then others. Then you have to take into consideration the kind of rifle that is being used. So I really do not have a set defination.

As for the use of 150 grain loads.. No I do not think there is any advantage to that large of a charge. If I were going to shoot magnum loads I better be hunting large animals at extreme distances where power and penetration is a must.

Same here, the hotest accurate load I've found in any of my guns is 130gr of Pyro pellets under a 300SST. Everything else is around 90 to 100gr of loose 777 2f in the inline and 70 to 100gr of Pyro P in the sidelocks. I too look for the most accurate load for each bullet I shoot, not the fastest.

I use 100 grains on hogs and it's fine. I even use 50gr for my girlfriend to lessen the recoil and thats seems to be good enough at close range. Put it where it counts and you'll be in good shape.

90gr. of Black Mag'3 with 300gr. bullet shoots completely through elk lungs at 100 yards or less. I am not a bigsupporter of the maximum loads.

I use 90grs of Clear Shot in my TC for elk. Shoots a 348gr PB hollow point quite accurately (out to 100yds) and has killed several elk for me. I'll be using it again for elk beginning onSep 10th. Don't deer hunt with a ML, but I'm sure it would do the job.

75 to 80 gr of 777 is plenty for me. Anything more and accuracy drops in my set-up. Even though my rifle is rated for up to 150 gr, I have no desire to shoot that heavy a load. I don't plan to shoot at anything over 100 yards to begin with. Your choice of projectile will determine if a high charge will yield positive results. State what projectile you shoot and many here will recommend a good starting point for all around performance.
