200g T/C Shockwave Sabots?
 

Just purchased some .50 200g T/C shockwaves to try. The light blue sabots that came with the bulletsseemthick - too thick! The bullet won't slide into the base without "flowering" the sabot, and wont even set in the base. I feel that this would cause inconsistency. I haven't tried shooting them yet. Anyone have any clue on a replacement sabot for this?

In the .50 caliber, the 200 gr. T/C Shockwave is supposed to be a .400 caliber bullet - as compared to their 250 and 300 gr. Shockwaves, which are .451 bullets. Are you sure you got the right bullet in that blue sabot? Roscoe

I've never been able to get my hands on the 200 grain Shockwaves in my area in a light blue sabot.I have no idea what to tell you, but I am sure there are some on this forum that have shot them. I personally shoot the 250 & 300 grain Shockwaves out of my rifles...

Since you have not tried shooting them, I would at least give them a chance. They might surprise you. I think the blue sabots are made by MMP for that projectile, so it would seem strange that they would not work. Give them a try and if they do not work then give Thompson Center a call at their tech support number and ask them what the problem might be.

Also, if you do decide to try them, let us know how they work. By the way when I load a Barnes 250 grain Expander in my Thompson Center rifle I notice as they are going in the muzzle the sabot has started to flower also. They are extremely accurate. If I were you I'd give them a try and see if they shoot.

They are a .40 cal ,thats why the sabot is so thick.
Have been shooting the SW and sst in my 50 cal encore since they came out.
If you check the pic in my post ("encore barrel changing ") you can see how they shoot for me.
Tried to get them to shoot in a 45 cal barrel with no luck at all.
Was shooting the 195 barnes in my 50 cal before the sst and SW came out but they didn't work to good on a big 8 pointer but the sst and shock wave is one heck of a deer bullet in either 200,250 or 300 gr.

I just picked up two of the plastic boxes of them at my local Wal Mart of all places. They are finally bringing out the muzzleloader supplies. So I had a good talk with the department manager of all the things I would like to see on their shelves and why. I bet they were glad when I left....:D

I will break out the inlines and see if I can get one stuck and what kind of accuracy they want to do....

I will see if I can sneak out tomorrow and give them a shot. I want to try the new Winchester WML209 muzzleloading primers I bought also. I want to see if they reduce the fowling in the breech of the rifle..

The 200 grain Thompson Center Shockwave with the blue sabot is an impressive projectile. I went to the 100 yard station with them and the Black Diamond XR and took the heavy bench rest. I also took some Rusty Duck pre lubed swabbing patches for swabbing between shots.

Roseaukaine.. as you mentioned, when you put the projectile into the sabot it does flower the sabot and looks like it is not seated all the way to the base of the sabot. I was not sure the reason for this, but in my rifle they loaded into the muzzle very easy. On a clean barrel they slide down with moderate force on the ramrod. I could feel the sabot trying to grab or stop against the side of the barrel but they did load fine. I checked my witness mark between loadings and it always came back to the same place. I even loaded them with the ramrod that comes with the rifle to duplicate field loading conditions. After shooting the above groups, I then loaded two more of them on a fowled barrel. Although it was harder to do, they still loaded fine.

Since they are such a light projectile I figured they would want a stronger powder charge, so I decided to kick them up to 110 grains of Pyrodex first. I was more then pleased with the group. Their location in relation to the target left something to be desired. These things hit much higher then the 375 grains Buffalo Bullets I normally hunt with using 100 grains of Goex 2f. The slight amount they hit to the left will have to be checked further. Perhaps the scope need some adjustment. But since I was only looking at how they loaded and behaved on the range I was more then pleased with a little over a 1" group out of the Pyrodex. Then I turned the box over and got ready for the next set.

Before I loaded the Triple Se7en FFg in110 grains, I ran three Rusty Duck cleaning patches through the rifle and several dry ones to make sure the rifle was as clean as possible. I was amazed at the little amount of actual fowling left behind by the Pyrodex. And there was no sign of a crud ring at all.

The three shot group of the 200 grain Shockwaves with the Triple Se7en measured right at 3/4 of an inch so I was more then pleased with that. I then shot two more of them without swabbing the barrel clean to see if I could load them. This opened the group up to 1.5 inches. I had a flyer. At least it went into the bulls eye.

Overall I am real impressed with the 200 grain shockwaves and the way they load and shoot out of the Black Diamond XR. I saved some because friends are talking about doing some long distance shooting this weekend. I figure where they are hitting right now, a slight adjustment left to right would be in order but the elevation might be very close to where I want to be... time will tell.

I see you did very good with the 200 gr.You probably noticed that some of the petals break off the sabot,As I undersatnd they are made too.It has never hurt my accuracy by doing so.
They sure work on deer too.
Hornady made some .452 sst in 200 gr,that I would love to try,but when I called them a lady said that they hadn't decided how they were going to market them,That was several months ago.So far still haven't seen any either.
