Will the world end?

If we talk about modern muzzleloaders here?

On another site I visit people get so up tight about modern guns they caused enough flame wars that the moderator got rid of the modern sections. What next no discussions about percussion guns there?

I love shooting all kinds of m/l's and think they all have a place in this big wilderness called the USA. Some of the flinters just want to bann the inlines outright instead of trying to add more time for a season devoted to them. A position I find at odds with the 2nd amendment crowds I hang out with.

It is a private site and the owner did what he thought was right but I would have just banned the A-holes causing the problems, not get rid of the whole thing with most everyone that used the forum showing respect for everyone and having fun.

None of use are elites. All of our poop stinks we should get along.

The funny part about it is the people who instgated the problems won? How does that work?

RE: Will the world end?

I personally would not get concerned over the other forum owner's actions. That site, as the owner, are traditional at heart. He did what he felt best for his website. So the inline shooters from there can gather here and discuss all the things we feel necessary to inline shooting. We can also discuss the traditional muzzleloading aspects here as well and actually do not need the other site at all, when you get right down to it.

There are a lot of informed people here who's opinions and observations (you included) that I greatly respect. So instead of worrying about someone else's actions, lets move on and enjoy this site. It is a great site with a great bunch of people...

Very true my friend I hope the others you and I talked with find their way over to this site because I will miss their company and insight. I hope I find out where Plains99 moves to because his reviews of new rifles was great. No sales hype just his opinion of how he felt about various guns he tested.

cayugad 08-11-2005 07:26 PM

RE: Will the world end?

I agree.. Plains99 has some excellent insight to new rifles coming onto the market and also projectiles to try. As I said, there is a wealth of information headed from that site hopefully here.. I guess we will just have to wait.

Good to see a couple of familiar names - just registered here after searching for a new forum that includes discussion/questions/advice/help, etc. on inlines. Gave my thanks to those on another forum who had helped me, a brand new BP shooter, with some quesions, before the inline area of that forum ceased to exist. Hoping to find the same help and patience from those here!!

I was rather burned with the whole thing myself. I shoot an inline and only an inline. I would even buy a traditional ML if the price was right. I just don't want to be considered an elitist. I mainly shoot archery, and I shoot compound. We have the elite thinking crowd in archery with the traditioal archers etc, etc,...I even have a recurve that I've been tinkering with. I'll take it hunting next year and put my compound up until I get a deer with a recurve. I don't even want to go back to that site anymore. Oh well.

Well I shoot everything I can get my hands on. Flintlocks, cap locks, inlines, black powder revolvers.. bows, you name it and I have a range for it... I started my bow hunting believe it or not with a straight stick bow of #39 pound draw weight and cedar arrows with bear big blade broadheads. Then I have been climbing the technology chain ever since....

RE: Will the world end?

I started shooting a bow with my dads longbow he made in 4H in the early 40's. It finally gave out and I started shooting a Bear recurve. I don't shoot bow anymore but one day may shoot again. The problem was I discovered rifles....

Judging from the amount of in-line threads on this forum...pretty safe bet you can talk about them here.

Just came from the other site too. Still a member there but need a place to talk about my CVA Kodiak. Thanks for being here.

RE: Will the world end?

Glad to see some others have found this site.
I too was a member there, still am. There's no cannon links on this site
though, so I can't abbandon them completely.

I disagree with the owner of that site aswell. No point crying over spilled milk any longer. I hope one day they see the light. I don't know how
the U.S. government works, but here in Canada things are different.
We beleive everyone has the right to hunt with any weapon in the right
season. traditional or modern. why? Because the land will be here long
after we're gone. In order to maintain the balance between man and
nature, we must stop over populated areas from over grazing. there's only so much time in the season, so there's no time slots left to seperate
modern ml'rs from trads. The government doesn't care how we hunt, so long as the balance is maintained. Traditionalists feel their rights are being infringed upon by inliners, that could be,but they forgot the fact that the government only gave them the season because of the population boom.
The populations are still rising, the need to hunt has never been stronger, and the only way to turn more people on to hunting was to alow newer, easier to use guns. Sorry if this offends anyone but it's the truth. My uncle
is good friends with the chief firearms officer, and he told me this, so what can we do? The environment is more important than what you or I
beleive or would like done. Personaly, I'm glad the government doesn't
take sides. By sharing the time slot, there's
more chance of running into a traditionalist or modern hunter and learn from the differences, introduce us to new methods, etc. Anyway I'm not
here to extend the arguments that caused the trouble on the other site.
I'm here to learn and pass on what I've learned to whoever asks.

Last but not least, it's too bad my screenname was already taken. Running out of cannon ammo for names, so don't no one take bp off
this site PLEASE!

Jason a.k.a cannonball no longer,
now a.k.a. Grapeshot.

P.S. I did get offly ticked when the other site went down and got tired of biting my tongue. I said some pretty nasty things I regret today. Sorry if
any of you here were on the receiving end of my wrath over there. I never started any controvercial topics, just made the mistake of sticking my nose where it don't belong. Sorry all, again.

RE: Will the world end?

Well, I for one thought it was silly to actually discontunue a active forum because the traditional members couldn't control themselves to stay off. And the only course of action was 1.)let it be, 2.) actually enforce the rules he had in place and warn/ban traditionalist who violated it, 3.) discontinue the modern forum. He picked 3 cause if he started banning his traditionalist members who is going to visit his page. He definately has a different set of rules from guys who think like him and modern shooters.

Hey, it was his dime and time, he can do what he wants. But I believe its in poor taste. He has been looking for a reason to discontinue the modern forum.

If the truth be known, he wanted rid of it to get down to his history stuff, and reenactment stuff. And I for one would rather a person to be honest and just come out and say that. But not everyone is me.

RE: Will the world end?

Big,
I think you hit the nail on the head with the comment about him having two sets of rules. I never saw the post to end it all but I was wondering why he let "Cold Mountain" start an anti inline post on the modern board and then continue to goad the MML who answered him. I thought that was a bit unfair considering the out come, but it is his dime so onward we march.

Hey Folks!

I'm here. A little brusied and bleeding but I'm here.:)

I don't fault the Admin at the other site, afterall it's his party and he made his choices. That would not have been my choice, even if it was my forum. Sort of a God-Complex to me. I don't hold any ill will, but there are a couple that might not make my xmas card list this year. [:@]

This is a really good place to rap about pretty much anything without having to take a beating for your views. It's good to be able to rap about all forms of muzzleloading without having to deal with the elite prima donna's.

Regards,

Tahquamenon

It's great to have the new members to the forum and especially the familiar names.. This just adds to the information available here for everyone because we are getting some real heavy hitters in the inline informationdepartment in addition to those already here.. Welcome to all.

I would not loose any sleep over what the other forum decided to do. His sight, his rules...

I too can say I was a bit disappointed to see the actions of the other forum being that I shoot both inline and traditional ML's. I surely won't loose any sleep over it. I'm just glad this forum is here and have some "grown ups" who can discuss all aspects of BP without getting "bent" over something they don't agree with. Glad to see some of the familiar names. Welcome everyone and I'll see ya around. ;)

Yep...a refugee from the "other site". I really enjoyed all the information I gleaned about inlines there, and was really disappointed that the inline forum was closed. Oh well, glad that there are some other familiar names here. Can't wait to post the pics of the deer I'm gonna shoot with my Omega this year! ;)

Yeah, baby! ThatWOULD have been the right thing to have done! Apparently theadministrator had underlying reasons that he didn't want to be upfront about! Well, all I've got to say is, I won't be visiting that forum any longer! It's just going to be a bigger party here and at the othermodern inline forums from now on!
Welcome to all the new members! Here's to modern inline muzzleloading!

bigcountry 08-14-2005 01:52 PM

RE: Will the world end?

I emailed the owner, and admin, and asked why.

He wrote back that the page was about tradition and history, neither which the inline has or contributes too. So it was just like I figured, he tried to open a modern page to keep modern shooters off his "traditional" pages but caused him more trouble than it was worth in his perspective.

If it was me, I would have just sent an email out just saying that, instead of the page got out of hand. Hey, he at least emailed back, and told me the reason.

MOTurkeyTamer 08-14-2005 03:00 PM

RE: Will the world end?

Well, you've got to respect the guy's wishes, after all, it is his forum. It's just too bad that the traditional shooters and the inline shooter can't get along. We are all shooters and we need to stick together, not feud amongst ourselves over what type of firearm we choose to use!

RE: Will the world end?

I'm from Canada and we have very few areas of expertise when it comes to ML. I depend on my southern brethern to keep me up to date on current trends and situations. It is a shame that we "ALL" have lost a valuable resource tool.
Someone has a trailer to their posts that coins the phrase,
"Stick together boy's, we're all in this together"
It is a shame that a "Moderator" didn't pick up on that.

Pittsburghunter 08-14-2005 07:18 PM

RE: Will the world end?

I used to frequent that forum. I don't know why people have to act thataways. I shoot flint only, but have no animosity toward modern MLing. I just always was intrigued with getting a gun like that to fire and taking a nice deer with such a primitive weapon. I think that some traditionalists feel superior because they do it the more primitive way and want to look down on anyone who doesn't share their way of shooting. I posted one thought to these elitist snobs: Our forefathers shot flintlocks because that is what was available. If an improvement came along. you can bet they embraced it. They had NO nostalgic connection to their guns. Their guns were tools and they relied on them to survive. If a more reliable gun was invented, by god you can bet they would upgrade with no hesitation. If a longhunter came back in a time machine today and saw the modern guns available, he would surely shake his head in bewilderment as to why anyone would use those old outdated relics of the past. Put things in perspective folks and lighten up! Were all sportsmen! Everyone likes what they like. And that's the way it is.

Tahquamenon 08-15-2005 01:57 PM

RE: Will the world end?

What's really funny to watch during the elimination of the modern categories is the Prima Donna's that are now rubbing themselves rapidly, all giddy over their paper thin "victory" over the modern muzzleloader. There are a couple that are very amusing to watch. Like they have an enhanced sense of entitlement, talking about "housekeeping" all of the "bad" folks every time someone wonders why the modern categories have been removed and remarks that they don't understand or convey their dissapointment.

Little tiny people.

I'm still getting hammered by the Regular Trollers over there. The real disappointing thing is trolling is very tolerated there, so long as you are one of the "Donna's".
I don't troll just to pick arguments and fights. I don't troll at all unless for aquatic species.

But hey, I still like that forum as I am interested in history, but it's tough going so far as the Donna's have my signature pre-targeted.

Still, there are some really nice folks there with a wealth of information.

Just like here as well.

;)

If the moderators of "that other board" don't put a lid on those doing the hammering, and you get tired of being beaten up, just say goodbye, and invitethose you considerstraight shootersto gather over here. Based on some of the nursery school antics I observed, it would not surprise me to see a few attempts at "pot stirrer" posts show up on this board.

Not to be petty but I asked an honest question when they started hailing Idaho as the model for the world I asked if they agree with the use of double barreled rifles because I felt that was an advantage over inlines? Legit question if you ask me.

Tahq,
All I know is that I feel I owe you a beer or atleast a thanks.
I see they did have it out for you and you stuck up for mml'ers
everywhere.I threw a hissy fit over loosing the category aswell.
To be honest though, it may have been a blessing in disguise. I've
always liked the history part of ml'ing but I'm more of a hunter anyways. This site has far more info I'm capable of using in the real
world. I still visit the other site for the cannon section and
once in a while I browse around. It's unbeleiveable how their behaving towards the mml'ers. I don't post there anymore. I think I'm ashamed of them. Besides, after my little fit in the "holy cow"
thread I'd feel out of place knowing someone else could have read
me ranting and then sees me givin' advice.?!? I'm surprised I'm not
banned after what I called the owner and his minions. I stooped to their level.

Childishness.

I'm going to wash my hands.

Thanks again.
