Favorite gun?
Well,
Its spring and there isn't much else to do so lets see if this can amuse us for a while. List your favorite guns. It may be guns that you own, or guns you wished you owned. You can catergorize them if you wish such as favorite deer gun, fav turkey gun, fav elk, fav squirrel, etc. And last but certainly not least lets argue every chance we get.[8D] So I'll start: Favorite Deer gun------280 Rem. Its an awesome cartridge. The 280 ,formerly known as the 7mm express, is a 30-06 case necked down to accept a 7mm bullet. It comes within a couple hundred feet per second of the 7 mag with less recoil (IMO) It is more than enough gun to bring down even the biggest muley. Favorite Elk/Moose/Bear etc gun--- 338 win mag. Always take enough gun. After all dead is dead. Well thats enough to start some arguments I would guess.....for now! |
RE: Favorite gun?
Ruger M77 6.5mmSwede- Norma 156gr "Alaska" for deer, elk and mosse.
For the big bears I have BLR in .358mag and A-Bolt in .338mag. |
RE: Favorite gun?
i shot my pronghorn with a .357 roberts last year, and my elk the year before. it is getting to be one of my favorites. i also like 7mm mag. :D
my all time favorite is bow and arrow!:D |
RE: Favorite gun?
i would probably have to say the good old 30-06. rebel hog what kind of rifle do you have the 6.5 swede loaded in. just wondering.
|
RE: Favorite gun?
I'll have to go with either my "custom" 6.5x55 Swede or my dad's "custom" .35 Whelen
|
RE: Favorite gun?
moose/deer my Winchester Model70 30-06
grouse my 20ga |
RE: Favorite gun?
Having hunted with most of the calibers from 22 Short to 416 Rem Mag, I could hunt all North America with my 280 or 6.5x55. If Grizzly was in the mix, my 7600 30-06 would get the call. Sold all the Magnums.

RE: Favorite gun?
My favorite all around caliber for big game is a 30-06 I use it for hunting Elk, Moose, Goat Sheep and Deer.I would not hesitate to use this caliber on any of the game mentioned above. It is all I use.
My second favarite would be the .338 Win mag. This is a caliber I bought 10yrs ago and have not used. But I'm glad I own it!!! It is Browning A-bolt with a Macmillon synthetic stock, and comes with the Boss muzzle break.Mounted is a Leupold VX III scope 1.5-6X power. Thirdly I would say the 375H&H mag perfect for the Northern B.C. and Alaskan moose hunts where Grizzlies are frequent and the Moose are big. (eg.>1100lbs.) I do not own this caliber but I highly respect it and it would be my caliber of choice when hunting in that State. |
RE: Favorite gun?
Favorite rifle: Ruger77RLS carbine, 358Win. :D
|
RE: Favorite gun?
Nice choices all! I have fallen in love with my 338. Many complain of the recoil, and it is a thumper. I love mine though.
Favorite Gun I wish I could Afford: Dakota model 10 with French Grey finish and alot of engraving....Caliber 222 rem. |
RE: Favorite gun?
My favorite rig is my Model 70 Winchester .338 win mag,I shoot everything with this gun.I love the .338 win mag round.
My favorite deer gun is my Ruger No.1-B 25-06 Rem,this round is deadly on deer antelope. Second favorite is my Modle 7600 Rem in 30-06 sprng. this was the first rifle bought for me when I was a kid,I got from my father, and I will give this gun to one of my boys when they are old enough to hunt.I have taken my 1st deer, elk, bear & antelope with this gun. |
RE: Favorite gun?
I have 3-favorite rifles.
1) Remington Sendero chambered in 7mm-STW. This is my go-to-gun for long range shooting. This gun is at home on the prairie shooting antelope or mule deer. 2) Ruger Model-77 chambered in 300-win. mag. This has been my old "work-horse" I have taken black bear, antelope, whitetail, mule deer & elk with this rifle. 3) Remington Model-700 BDL Deluxe chambered in 375-Remington Ultra Mag. I think this rifle & I are going to be good friends.:D I have found a good handload for this rifle. I will hunt everything (black bear, antelope, whitetail, mule deer & elk) with this rifle.:) |
RE: Favorite gun?
Wow, a 375 ultra for antelope. Talk about enough gun. Well, more power to ya if you can take the recoil.[:'(]

RE: Favorite gun?
Rem 700 SS in 270 win.
|
RE: Favorite gun?
My old win 70 in .264 has been my "go to" gun for a long time. Then I had a disire for a rem 7600 in .35 whelen. My wife bought me one for Christmas one year and It was a Fav. for awhile. Then I fell in love with the T/C Encore 50 X 209 muzzleloader. I got me one and hunted with it a year. I had visions of getting all sorts of extra barrels in a variety of cartridges but have not (so far).
The first big game I ever shot was with a borrowed sav. 99 in .300 sav. I have always thought of owning one. Last year I bought two and hunted most of the fall with one of them. I took a bull moose, a white-tail doe and two wolves with it. I am presently doing some hand loading for it and it is my pet at the moment. If my affection should sway it might be towards a little number I saw on "www.Eaacorp.com" A side by side double rifle in 45/70 at a fairly affordable $ tag. Robin |
RE: Favorite gun?
Mauser FN, 30-06 although my most recent addition is quickly gaining favor. Ruger M77 Mk II 270wsm.
|
RE: Favorite gun?
Mauser FN,Ruger M77II .... like mauser and mauser style actions do we? Me Too ! Nearly perfect design. full length claw extractor. control round feeding. Brilliant design. I want to build a custom 375 HH one of these days on either a Mauser action or a Ruger M77 action... Some day I guess. Bear medicine, you see!

RE: Favorite gun?
For Big-Game, my favorite by far is my 700 BDL in 30-06. I have hunted with it for so long and feel so comfortable with it that it has become an extension of my arm. I have quite a few small and med. bores to play with but none quite match up to the versatility and comfort of the ole sixer.

RE: Favorite gun?
Savage Model 110 in .270 and Winchester Model 70 in .300 Win Mag
|
RE: Favorite gun?
7mm and 300 weatherby mag
|
RE: Favorite gun?
Shato, I hear you. While the Remmies and Winnies are nice I like to shoot a bit of history. Let's see, of all the centerfire rifles in my safe only only 3 aren't mauser actions of one flavor or another. Rem 7600 35 whelen, 700 ADL 257 roberts, and M94 in 307 winchester. I also have a penchant to be the guy with something different.
|
RE: Favorite gun?
A hand-me-down Sako 7mm Rem. Mag. Excellent shooter with some very special memories of the hunts and the guy that gave it to me.
|
RE: Favorite gun?
My Rem. 700 .338 WM has been my "go-to" rifle for a while now... The 7 STW and the .375 are close runner-ups... Have a dozen or so more that hardly ever get used. But, for just some pure "shoulder thumpin'" fun.. My Circasion Walnut stocked, "fully custom" .416 Rigby gets the nod... Now that gun will just make you giggle.. Yeah, It's that fun! Sub MOA groups at 100 yds. But, at 6 dollars a shot, it doesn't lend itself well for plinkin'...
It would be a sad day, if I could only choose one.... The current "go-to" ![]() |
RE: Favorite gun?
I use my .308 for just about any big game we have here in Quebec. remington 7600
12 ga. for the rest. Remington 870 |
RE: Favorite gun?
I have been using a Parker Hale 30-06 for many..many..years actual I have 2, but I just bought a Remington 300 Ultra Mag and getting ready to set it up nothing but a Leupold on the top for me, Shotguns Old 1100 and the New Winchester Super X2

RE: Favorite gun?
[:-] don't say anything to anybody. But, I got a pre-64 model 70 in 30-06 found. It is in pristine condition, and this is the best part. The owner doesn't know what its worth. I'm all giddy. I think a can buy it for 5 bills or less. The only reason I don't own it right now is, I had to go home and check the serial numbers to make sure I was correct about my assumption that it was pre 64.

RE: Favorite gun?
I don't have that many guns.Six I believe.1)Remington bolt action 22 for plinking and woodchucks on the property.2)A single shot break open 20 guage,my first shot gun as a kid.3)A mossburg 835 12 guage for turkey hunting.4)A Thompson Center Encore .50 caliber muzzleloader.5)a Remington 700 LSS mountain rifle in 30-06 and,6) a Browning Stainless Stalker A-bolt in .270.While most of these guns were carefully selected for their specific use, there is only one that I almost get misty eyed about and that is the .270.I love that gun,my 30-06 is cosmetically beautiful and I have quite a bit of money in customizing it,but it has never seen the woods in hunting season.Until that .270 kills plenty of the type of animals I wish to kill, the 30-06 will not see the light of day.It is the dardnest thing,I feel like I owe it to the gun to have it see that kind of success!
