RE: canadian moose hunt
I totally agree with Skeeter on the cow moose call. There isn't one on the market that I have found or heard of that can't be better made by your own voice. Don't get into the same ol' waaaaahhhhhhhhhh pause waaahhhhhhhhh pause waah. Like Skeeter said, I pinch my nose together to get a more nasal sound to the call, and use a birch bark call too. Mix it up most cows I hear making calls will have a "shakey" tone to their calls. Also a birch bark call is my favorite thing to have with me. You can use it to throw your calls, rake the brush, fill it with water to sound like a cow urinating, and lots of other stuff.
Another thing I carry with me is a shoulder blade, works great at aggressively raking the bush. And somethig I just started to piddle with is a cow decoy. Montana Decoy makes one that folds up into my pack, and with a little practice sets up and takes down in no-time ,and it looks great. Only tried it a few times last year, but got good response from it,,,,,unfortunatally it was from really small bulls. Didn't have a chance to use it on anything big to see how they would react, but I know it is going to work like a charm. Not too many people doing this yet that I have talked to, but a black sheet hung over a couple of downed trees works too. Had a friend take a nice bull doing this a couple of years ago. I have also seen most of the video's that Skeeter mentioned. Carlton's is very good for hearing what the calls sound like,,,,and as skeeter said, don't pay any attention to the calls he makes with his "made up" calls. They don't sound a thing like the real animal. They are just trying to sell you some calls you definately don't need. Good Luck |
