I would go with the .300 WSM. Good luck.

Thanks for all the replies guys!. It seems as if there is really no "bad" choice out of all of those. Kinda makes the decision easier - all boils down to what rifles I can get each caliber in and what rifles out of those I like. Thanks again guys!

Get what fits you I like the .338 win mag and the .300 Ultra when elk are on the menu.

Do you reload? or shoot factory ammo?

I would most likely shoot factory ammo - thats currently what I do. I just buy about 5-6 boxes of the same lot, brand, etc. and get em shooting good before I hunt anything. My brother shoots a lot and if he bought the same caliber as I, reloading might be a possibility, but for at least a while, it will be factory ammo.

I've been shooting a 7mag for quite a few years and really like it. Several elk, caribou, mulies and whitetails and never had to follow a blood trail. Last year I was on a real tough high country hunt in NW Montana and thought about getting a good "lightweight" mountain rifle. I bought a lightweight .300 wsm and just love it. Still like my 7mag, but it's a bit heavier, although will still get used.

Regardless what you get, I HIGHLY recommend a SS / synthetic combo. Very practical weapon and will take the elements that will sooner or later face you in a hunt.

I have a tikka t-3 ss/syn in good old 7mm-mag. I am/will be hunting all the animals you listed and think this gun is a great choice. For the money the tikka can't be beat.

I would lean toward the 300WSM.I would be looking hard at the Kimber's either the Classic or the Montana,or I would be looking at the Browning A-Bolt stainless Stalker.A great recoil pad like a Pachmayer Decelerator or one of the new Simms vibration labratories recoil pads and a trigger job and your in business.

Mr.G
I would opt for the .300 wsm as well. I was an '06 guy until last year when I bought my 300short.
The caliber is kind of a tweener.........Between the '06 and .300 mag. A little more boost than the '06 but not the recoil of a .300 mag. Great medium and a flat shooter.

I purchased a Savage 116f stainless. These are extremely accurate and light rifles also the price is right!!!
Worth a LK
