In theory I think it sounds logical but what do you think.
I am wondering if I’m gouging my bear to the point of being complacent and lazy about hitting my bait. Mid-day I take out three 5 gal. Pails every other day. It seems my bait gets hit they day I bait but lately it has been getting hit between 10PM and Midnight. I’m wondering if I should maybe cut back to maybe only (1) 5 gal. Pail everyday or maybe every other day.
I guess what I’m thinking is now that bear gets so full that his motivation to get in to feed isn’t as strong – basically he is not that hungry. By cutting his food down might create a bit of motivation to hit it early so that he is sure to get some.
Kind of give him a little so he has a strong appetite for more. I know that is what my wife did with me when we were dating. Gave me a little so would work hard for more – and it worked.

This is a practise I have used for years to get bears to feed earlier. It really works well if several bears are using the bait. The bears will usually come earlier to ensure they get some food before it is gone.

If you have only one bear coming, you are feeding too much. If your schedule permits, feed him one bucket of bait or less every afternoon at about three to four hours before sundown. Probably by the third night, you will have a crack at him in the daylight. Let us know how it turns out.

Most of the guys I have talked to bait earlier in the day to try and keep from bumping bears off of the bait. This way the food is there earlier and the bears seem to come earlier to beat the compitition.

I am no baiting expert, but I would say cutting down the amount of bait and putting it out as early in the day would make sense to me. You are forcing them to come during the daylight hours and also forcing competition between them that can only speak for the largest laying claim to your bait pile.
Good Luck and let us know what happens!

Thanks Guys!
You KNOW I will keep you informed how things go!
I can report that I am working two baits and although I wouldn't bet the farm, I'm sure I have mutliple bears coming in. Since my original post on this subject I have cut down to 1/2 of a 5 gal. pail per bait. Out of the two the latest time I am have a hit was 8:30PM (dusk)and that was after a 6PM bait - all the rest were between 4PM and 7PM. My season opens Sun. and I am really getting pumped.
Thanks again for your ideas and support!
