54Cal or 50Cal for Elk

I personally own a caplock .50, but I bought mine as a deer gun that could take an elk if I ever wanted to. If you are buying this rifle specifically for elk, and assuming you going to use the more traditional bullets and loads, I would definately go for the .54. That cal can be used on deer or elk, or any other big game in my area, and its got more punch to it that a .50.

I have taken 3 elk with a 50 and all under 100 yds. anyone who shoots over 100 Yds is not shooting a true smokepole and needs to have his head examed. 2 of the 3 were under 50 yds. I just bought a 54 and have not hunted with it yet. let you know next year, provided I do not get one with my bow first.
