RE: Who is for / against USO?
That is one thing they will never tell you truthfully....to them it is more high dollar clients...And a guide is not in business not to make a profit...Dont get me wrong..I believe in what you are trying to do but you will have to take it farther for it to work...and that is by Boycotting all guides...that way they will all fight for you....By asking on the position they will tell you what you want to hear. But by boycotting them also you are playing with there livelyhood and they will inturn complain to the state as well.
Ok let me explain...by Boycotting USO would be like Boycotting the salt and vinigar potato chips to Lays(lays in reference to USO here)...you would have to boycott all the flavors...even if you liked them |
RE: Who is for / against USO?
I think you missed some of the logic here. First I haven't heard of another outfitter who himself and other employees have been indicted for using aircraft to illegally take elk for their customers. Second no other outfitter was dumb enough or had the resources to sue several states to change how they manage game. Outfitting should be a local business and I am fine with Arizona guides picking up all the USO business. You underestimate the power of the dollar. This boycott will impact due to hunters changing their buying habits. I spend around $7000 a year on hunting and fishing. If there was no other choice but USO sposors products you would be correct but there are many camo companies, muzzleloader companies etc. etc. The hostility is incredible from hunters here and I truly believe that USO will be pushed out by the state legislature and their hunters will be harrassed to no end at their camps this fall. It isn't about 10% of non-res tags, it's about a lottery with non-res being equal to res in the draw. Non-res theoretically could get more than 50% of the tags based on gambling odds. It's a war to us and we ain't some bunch of huggers.

ORIGINAL: gleninAZ and their hunters will be harrassed to no end at their camps this fall This is a response to NWoutdoorshop. we dont have a cap on non res tags here everyone is put into one draw. Washington and oregon are the only states where you can hunt Roosevelt elk.....oregon has the second largest elk herd in america...Looks like you need to change the sale of animal parts to make this better |
RE: Who is for / against USO?
Judge says Arizona must revise hunt draw process immediately
Wildlife News July 19, 2004 Those hunters already drawn for bull elk or drawn for antlered deer in Hunt Units 12A, 12B, 13A and 13B will receive permits as planned before the court ruling was issued. The additional permits will affect a relatively small percentage of hunt units—only 42 of 165 elk hunt units, and 9 of 108 deer hunt units. “Most important,” says Ferrell, “ is that every Arizona hunter who was already drawn this fall will receive a permit. We’re not taking away any permits from residents.” More than 100 hunters attended today’s commission meeting. More than 270,000 people applied for big game permits for the fall hunt. The Game and Fish Commission will discuss long-term options to address the court ruling at a meeting to be held in Flagstaff, Aug. 13-14. |
RE: Who is for / against USO?
You are right about harrassment laws and although there is a lot of talk here about giving the USO camps a hard time most of us understand. Some of the websites have published locations of base camps and some have contacts to figure out the rest so my comment is based on a limited discussion about having camps set up very close to those locations, not actually going out in the woods and creating issues. Still, if I was paying four grand for a guided hunt I would not want to be camping in the middle of a bunch of people. More important is the Game and Fish meeting August 14th that will be preparing for the january legislative session. Lots of very creative ideas to still allow non-resident opportunities without screwing the average guy who cant afford a big price tag. The outlawing of sale of game animal parts is only one idea but the focus will be to create a fair system that will close every legal loophole to USO attorneys.
