I think we all know that when you hike a mile or two off the road you leave a lot of hunters behind you. Question for y'all - how far in do you figure you go from your truck? Oh yeah, let us know if you're ridin' or hiking.

For those of us who can't afford a airplane,I've shot elk from 100 yds from the road to 16miles in the back country.
I walk and/or ride my horses, depends on where I'm at and how far I have to drag my horse trailer.

Depends on what i'm hunting, and who's airplane i'm in.
I'm just curious, I've been wanting to know this for awhile. Is it legal to have a helicopter and land it several miles into a public piece of land? I mean can you fly a helicopter 15+ miles into the most remote corner of a WMA, then get out set up camp, and hunt that way? Just curious.

From: Rocky Mountains, Colorado
For Elk:
25 miles of easy graded dirt road to the main camp (by any vehicle as long as snow is minimal, 4WD advised).
4 miles of trail to spike camp on foot leading pack horse (no ATVs allowed in this area thank God).
From the spike camp we range on foot from 150 yards (actually a good spot) to up to 2 miles further back in on foot (from the spike camp). The more people we have along the more we have to "range out" to get some separation.
