And I mean hunt hard and a day lost to some wondering jackass going threw a beding area that he didnt even know was, during prime elk moving time when Iam set up to cut them off to the only water on a dry year ( saw these cows and 300 + bull travle same rout two days in a row finaly had the right wind to set up) he didnt see them run out.

Then ran in to him half way down the mountain he said he didnt see any fresh sing packed up camp and left.[:@][:@][:@]

Residents or nonresidents it realy dosen't matter there are good and bad hunter in both.Hunts get scewed up for a lot of reasons, other hunters are just one of them. I tend to like the non's cause they normal have put some thought into their hunt and come equip.

You mentioned that odds should be the same for all hunters for draws in states where non-residents currently have better odds. Do you have the same "equal opportunity" opinion about states where the odds favor residents? IMHO all of usare "residents" of the good ole USA and should have equal acces to the resources that are maintained or owned by the federal gov't.

ColoradoJones,

Just curious whether you reported the ATV abusers or not?? Usually when I see a violation I'm either in the middle of nowhere with no cell phone or don't have the proper number to call to make the report. We have that problem here in MN as well with ATV's. They are only supposed to ride them during certain hours but some abuse the privilege and ruin it for the rest. I don't own one although I have nothing against those that do as long as they use common sense.

In general, I think the average nonresident hunter is a more accomplished hunter than the average resident.

That said, I hate nonresidents who complain about the price of the licenses. Many of us who are residents in states like MT live here in spite of the perpetually depressed economy, an economy that is kept depressed by the rest of the nation so they can use our state for a giant playground. Many residents actually depend on wild game meat as a vital supplement to our livelihood. Therefore, we should absolutely enjoy lower license fees than an out-of-stater, who almost by definition is hunting just for the hell of it.

Nice try but your wrong in a couple of spots. "Resources" can mean many things: water, trees, acreage, wildlife, fish, minerals etc. The federal government owns and maintains National Forests but it does not own or maintain wildlife.

For one, Federal law specifically states that wildlife is the property of the state not of the federal government. So this means that you as a non resident, are not paying state income/property/gas taxes so you do not have a moral or legal claim to wildlife in a state that you do not reside in.

Don't bother getting riled up about this. It's not my opinion it's a fact. You can read the laws for yourself. I believe the Lacy Act of 1900 is what you would want if you need further info.

RE: dislikes about nonresidents.

I've seen stupid residents, as well as stupid non-residents. The same feature here is stupid people. Sorry guys, but their everywhere. Quick story time. About two years back, I followed a snowmobile trail up a mountain untill I got to the top of the treeline. It took me about an hour to hike up there. Once there, I saw a parked ATV. Figuring on being a nice guy, I turned around and left the area for the guy who beat me there with the quad. As I was about half-way down, I heard some rocks tumbling down below me. and a branch break. Figuring it was either a deer or moose, I decided to park my butt under a tree and wait. Not quite, but close to (get this) five minutes later, I hear voices. (and not the ones in my head either. They keep quite while I'm huntin';)) I stand up and look just over the slight crest in the hill to see two heads bobbing up and down, coming towards me on the trail, yakking away, paying no attention to lifting their feet. I call out, "Morning guys, nice day for a walk huh?" And their response? "SHHHH! You're going to scare every damn elk of this mountain!" My jaw literealy hit the floor. I never mentioned the fact that if I heard them five minutes before hand, I'm pretty darned sure so did every critter within a mile. Later in the day, after a hike back to my truck from another trail, I saw these same two idiots blasting around on a pair of quads. I don't now where they were from, but my stupid people philosophy stays strong and true!

Well, I just can't help myself but to add to Pharoh2's stupid people philosophy, and add to my previous post. One year, my dad was up in a quakie stand looking into a clearing where there was a spring and some grass and stuff. He had seen a few deer in there including a decent three pointer, he was maybe 3/4 mile from the nearest road. He was actually right above it on a hillside. Out of no where come these three idiots on a dune buggy riding up the hillside. They stopped like 50 feet away from my dad, got off the dune buggy with their guns and looked around (by now the deer were long gone). Then they got back on there dune buggy and took off. I could hear them from over a mile away tearing through the brush and just making a lot of nonsense noise. Well, my dad had a little chat with their parents. We didn't see those guys again (nor hear them)! They were still in the general area, but a few miles away. Stupid people.

Hah! See their everywhere! :D About 2 or 3 miles down the road from my last story, I was cruising down the road and soptted a herd of whitetails running through the trees. I grabbed my gun and started after them. It took me about a half hour till I got close enough to start seeing what was in this herd. Then I started to hear this chainsaw or somthing. And it was getting closer. Then out of nowhere, this guy on a quad blew right between me and the deer, never realizing any of us where there. Granted, I'm sure the deer never saw his camoflauge outfit, camo gun-boot, and camo quad, so I'm really not to sure why they took off like a bat out of hell when he passed!;)
