Hey bearwallow,

What's wrong with a 7 mag???? I've seen a bullet from a 7 mag. go entirely through a brown bear (with soft points) and kill it as dead as dead can be, now you think it's maybe not enough for black bears??????

The 7mm Rem mag with 175 NP's will out penetrate a 30-06 with 220 grain RN bullets, and given any decent shot placement will kill what ever it hit's DEAD!!! How do i know this??? Well, i use to shoot a 7 Rem. mag. a "lot", and because i've done the above my self, and seen it done by others many times!!!

BTW, i no longer own a 7mm magnum, but i sure know what one will do!!

The 7mm Remington Magnum is not the dragon slayer people think it is.
Neither is the 30-06.There is no magic cartridge.Bullet construction means far more than bullet weight as far as penetration is concerned.I have taken a lot of game with both 7mm and .308" bullets and the best penetration that I have seen was from 7mm- 140gr failsafes.I have seen the heavy 220gr .308" bullets expand too much to attain maximum penetration.

Default 30.06 for bear !!!!!!!

i would use 165 grain winchester fail safes or barnes X triple shocks .... both would
drop a bear in its tracks...i have to admit i am a fond admirer of the 30.06..
my 1903 springfield 30.06 has done the trick with any grain of my choosing..lol...
good luck i imagine a 7 mag is an excellent choice also..

I imagine he's referring the the 7mm Rem Magnum. The 7mm will shoot a little faster and flatter than the 06. Is it enough to notice, some might but most won't. I own two 06's and on occasion have an opportunity to hunt with a 300 winmag and a 7mm mag. All three will do the same thing and that is put an animal down if you place the shot correctly.

i agree mr longbeard.... i honestly it comes down to shot placement which comes with conifedence in your shooting ability and the rifle that you are shooting..

7x57 Mauser is a good blk bear cartridge!! Use 150 or 160 grain bullets, and it will easily do the job!!! You can only kill them so dead, don't ya know!! :&gt
