I have not hunted there, but have heard that it is very good for deer, not elk. Isn't most of it either Indian reservation or private though? Did you hunt public or private. I was invited to hunt a private ranch with alfalfa fields next to the res, but decided instead to hunt unit 74 for elk.
We will hopefully be hunting for elk with a muzzleloader north of Dolores this next fall, if we get picked. Used to bowhunt a lot, when I went to A&M, but now love to muzzleload.

Howdy Ag,
We have had luck with deer and elk there. Its a private ranch that connects to the reservation on the Animas River. Then the ranch has another place we hunt at towards Wildcat Canyon, thats the place were we see the elk. Its supposidly on the elk migration route. Ill dig up my pics and try to post them for you. Your right its mostly deer, but weve been successful with elk too at the other place. I shot a 5x5 muley that was about 26", and shot a small 4x5 bull. It was the first bull I saw so I had to take it, last year I took home that $500.00 empty tag and my wife still hasnt let that one go yet.

Hey , Texasaggie: You know why they tell aggie jokes don't you? Because when you say its about an aggie, everyone knows its a joke. Tell the same story about a Texas longhorn, and they will think its true! LOL
Actually, I have some great longhorn friends, and there seems to be a lot more friendliness since the bonfire tragedy. Texas people were really great in their support about that. Sorry that you probably missed out on that tradition completely, unless you went to the alternate one. Hope they bring it back soon.
Take care.

Thats fine, its just a tough subject for me. I saw things that morning that I never cared to see or ever see again. Im sure you can understand. Im sure most of the people in here have no idea what it is, they have never seen it, nor understand it.
