Default moose hunt

Is there any place in Canada or Alaska that someone could go on a unguided hunt for moose? Or does it need to be guided?

I believe anywhere in Canada that a non-canadian wants to moose hunt, they have to be either guided or outfitted. In Alaska, you can fly up, grab your gun or bow, buy a license and tag and go on your merry way. There are bills out there to make moose hunting in Alaska guided only though. It sounds like the current one will not happen though. It got caught up in a committee and will probably die there.

I can't speak for the rest of the country. But in Ontario, I believe that not only do you require a guide you will also reguire lodge accomodation. In other words, I don't believe you can arrive with a tag and guide, then just camp out in the woods.

You don't need a guide to hunt moose in Ontario. But you have to buy a tag from an outfitter and stay in his camp or resort.

Moose and caribou hunts in AK can be easily planned without a guide and success rate is very good if you fly into a remote area.

dont get lost. Quebec can be unguided still I believe. If you want a real moose hunt then start putting in for preferance points in Wyoming. You can do it yourself and hire a pack train to haul out the critter.
