RE: Running Shots -->

I think it is the shooters choice and confidence in his ability. If i have a good rest and the deer is in the open i will not hesitate to try. I Have shot 2 deer that way both 1 shot kills. It's your choice. But if mr. buck comes by me i feel confident enough to take a crack at him! Happy Hunting! :)

Bambikiller, 20 mph is pretty close to 35 kph. Next time you drive down the road at 35 kph pay attention to how fast your going and thats pretty fast and now your going to shoot an animal from 90 meters away at something moving 35 kph, I am sure it can be done but whats the percentage of actually making the shot a vital one to the percentage of wounding an animal? I just have too much respect for the animal to make 20 mph shots at 100 yards away. I see weekend warriors mistakes out here when the season starts and it makes me sick. Bobby

Just to give you an idea here are some top speeds(ballpark) of game
Elk and Mule Deer are about the same 35 MPH or 56 KPH
Bears get a slight edge at 40 MPH or 64 KPH
Pronghorns can reach speeds over 50 mph or 80 KPH
>>> and just for ha ha's
Maurice Green (Olympic sprinter) reached a top speed of 27 MPH or 43 KPH
So 20 MPH or 32 KPH for any game listed above would not be a problem

Easy answer " Let him go so he can grow"

Put as much lead in the air as possible...j/joking:D

I don't really know as I like my shots standing still...but I guess if you practiced you could probably be pretty proficient at it...

OK, Has anyone done the math?
For the ease of figuring it out we will leave out the wind, branches & twigs too!

Wind, branches & twigs is the least of it....

Slug guns to 7mmRUM's everyone is going to have to do their own math on that one....

Good Luck and Good Hunting,

I personally pass up any and all running shots. Never having done much bird hunting, I'm pretty deliberate about shooting. I've changed my hunting tactics over time to avoid facing the running game problem as much as possible. I stillhunt about 50-150 yards per hour: 2-4 steps, stop and look for 30 seconds to 5 minutes, then 2-4 more steps and so on.

I haven't taken a running shot in a long time. Too many things can go wrong.
