RE: Ontario moose hunt
ELK; In most areas of Ontario, nonres. must purchase their tag from an outfitter. While they are free to have at it themselves, they must stay at the outfitters lodge, resort, camp, whatever. There are a few units where a guide is required. Gun and bow packages can range from the lone bowhunter with a bull tag, to groups with any mixture of bull, cow, and calf tags.

RE: Ontario moose hunt
All you have to do is use thier services and that can mean anything from a full guided hunt to renting a room only at thier motel in some cases. |
RE: Ontario moose hunt
Rusty Myers out of Fort Frances should be able to set you up. I sent a few friends there in the past and they had a great time. Most of their camps are in prime locations. Make sure to get time from around the 18th of Sept untill the 5th or 6th of October to conincide with the rut.

RE: Ontario moose hunt
Another thing to keep in mind if you rifle hunt, is depending on the area or wmu in North West Ontario and the date of the opening, black bear and deer season may be open. Give's you some other options, including Grouse hunting and fishing.
I hunt west of Ignace and its a long drive from Toronto but worth every mile. Don't really know any outfitters because we are self sufficient in that way, but try the NOTO website, should be some outfitters there. This area is usually pretty busy during the first and second week after the opening in October, its actually pretty nutz, full of hunters. We now go up for the third week which makes hunting a little more difficult, not that moose are gun shy but there not stupid either, they see alot of action by alot of people, trucks, atv's so it pushes them back. A symmetrical 45" bull is superb, I have seen larger taken, but symmetry turns me on more than separation. good luck, 340 |

Thanks all.
Mooseman48 - I have noticed several different moose photos on your responses to a few topics and they are all very "up close", let's say. If you took those yourself, good job! I've thought of Rusty Myers. I drive by their place all the time when fishing up on Eagle. |
RE: Ontario moose hunt
They are screen captures from my video camera. I see plenty of moose every year so I mostly carry the camera gear and call. My partners have been tossing the blades lately. I get better footage every year.

RE: Ontario moose hunt
You don't have to go that far west to get great moose hunting .We have been 3 for 3 on the archery season, and 8 of 10 with 2 season's getting more than 1 moose and I'm not travelling that far. 21WMU which is a hr past Wawa.

RE: Ontario moose hunt
Nubo, you are absolutely right. There are moose all over the north land. Rusty Myers Air Base happens to be near the border at their place of departure. Their camps are mostly up in WMU 15 north of Savant. It just takes alot less time to fly there and the lakes their camps on are quiet, compared to the cut-overs. It would make a great trip.
