Yes I did mean Ne Colorado. The test you are refering to does not work on elk and is not acceptable for live deer in captive areas. Believe me most all captive elk herds are tested and now most states are working on getting thier deer tested in captive areas. I am in favor of this I think it will shut up the people who think all this disease starts in captive areas. Some may, but Not all. Wild deer are social animals and herd up at certain times of the year, putting more animals in a small area than alot of farmers have. They nuzzle and groom each other and often water from the same spring hole. Some states are in fact doing a great job with setting up test spots for the deer that are shot in the wild, while other states are dragging along far behind. There are also some deerfarmers in every state that need to clean up thier act. Transporting animals accross statelines without testing is unacceptable. Not feeding enough or proper pen size or enough cover to get animals out of the weather are also problems. These are the guys who need pressure to clean it up and it should come from the deer farmers. The case in Colorado has gotten alot of press but that area covers I think 11 counties. And who do the state blame thier outbreak on, The deer farmers. The disease was first found in captive reserch center in Colorado in the 60's. Not proven to be where it started but where it was found.
