My parents are looking into sending me on a bruin hunt for my graduation present this spring. Guaranteed 400-600# or better bruin or I don't pay. I've got a ruger mark II m77 in .30-06, and don't have a reloader (yet), what factory loads for my '06 would do the job on big boy bruins like these???? I think it's a baited bear hunt, so they'll be fairly close.

Hornady Interlock,Trophy Bonded,Partition,Swift A-frame just to name a few....
I would go with a 180 gr bullet. Also don't forget that bullet placement on a big bear can be deceiving because of the hair hanging down from the chest.Aim a little higher than
you would on a deer.
PS:Last year the pending world record black bear was killed(by a car!) right here in Manitoba. It had a live weight of approx. 900lbs.DNR officals estimate that if it had not been killed in the early fall(about 2 months before hibernation),it may have topped 1000lbs when it would have denned up!!!!

I've also got a Ruger 77 in .30-06. I've used it with Federal Trophy Bonded Bear Claw 180 gr. factory loads. They have worked spectacularly on all bears I shot with it. Enjoy that hunt and get a big one.

If you go with a 180 grain Nosler bullet you can take ANY bear, up to and including a Kodiak brownie (even though the .30-06 is the low end of the caliber for brownies).
Good luck and have fun!

Proline,
I am fairly ignorant when it comes to bullet types, i just pick one I have seen do well. But why did you add that "NOT DEER" to your post regarding failsafes for bear?? I think I can guess that they overpenetrater, but I am just guessing so fill me in please.
Just my uneducated opinion!
