RE: .30--06 factories for big boy bruins??
ya know fellas, i pop into this thread from time to time just to read stories, and possibly look for an elk partner..... every single time i come in its the buckshot and bear thread. does anybody gain any ground on the other? or did everybody agree to disagree?
the bear i shot here in the olympics was with 180's, dead as a post. just below 200 yrds and it did the job beutifuly. good luck on your hunt, enjoy every minute of it. |
RE: .30--06 factories for big boy bruins??
"With buckshot past 30 yards, you can very easily skirt the vitals of a big game animal. Yes, Blain even with the vang comp choke you can have a space 8" with no shots in it at that distance."
Are you joking? I know shotguns that only pattern 10" at 40 yards!!! 8" space if your using some other choke maybe. Also the fool who said about me shooting out of a tight choke barrel, that's why I don't shoot out of a tight choke barrel. The buckshot I use is hardened with 4% animity so it is very hard shot, it is no softer than the lead muzzle loading balls many use. It is extremly large and hard shot. Very deadly. From Squirrel to Elephant, the Shotgun is your gun. |

Blain, please grace us with a picture of the last bear you have killed with a shotgun. Thanks in advance.

RE: .30--06 factories for big boy bruins??
I bear hunt a lot and use a .358 win with .250 speers, a fellow who hunts with me uses his o6 with factory .220 grn rem corlockt. We kill some big ones and he gets good results with the 06 and the .220 corlockts. We hunt over bait. I would be wary of an outfitter that promises you a 400 to 600 lb black bear, they don't come easy in 25 yrs of hunting in Canada I've taken 5 or 6 in that weight range, and they were weighed not guessed.

Blain....
your quote: "...I know shotguns that only pattern 10" at 40 yards!!! 8" space if you're using some other choke maybe" What kind of shotgun (that you know off) patterns buck shot like that???????? Or better yet, what shotgun do you know holds 8" patterns at 40 yards, regardless of choke????? Remember, 40 yards is 120 feet, which is basically the length of a 12 story building (10 feet per story). Or better yet, almost half a football field. 10" pattern with buck shot at 40 yards is bull $^*&! My question above relates only to buck shot, since that is what I believe you are always refering to. The more and more I see your comments relating to buck shot, the more I realize your true inexperience in the "real-world" of buck shot capabilities/performance and hunting experience. You simply give out bogus information to other forum readers. I can't wait to read your answer. Edited by - Hk45USP on 02/18/2002 02:07:36 |
RE: .30--06 factories for big boy bruins??
I agree with you there quilly...gimme a .45-70 any day.
I'd agree with Blain about using a shotgun if for only one reason he changed his opinion. That opinion being....using a 1oz 12ga SLUG or bigger. I'm done with the buckshot topic. Get'n old. |
