I originally posted this in the Huntingpolitics forum. Looks like this may be a better place to post.
I see in today's news (1/9/04) another mountain lion attack that killed a cyclist in California. Wonder if this will change any minds on the hunting ban on mountain lions in that state. See attached link for story:

Hi Recruit,
It will only change the minds of the victim's family members. (I hate to sound calloused.....but you could only hope it was someone that voted against lion hunting....poetic justice.)
It will have no bearing on the "animals above all" lovers...whatsoever!

As AKbound mentioned, it probably won't matter. The only way is either if the cats start killing alot of people to where the government can't ignore it anymore or maybe the cats will kill someone deemed important enough before any kind of change would take place. Too bad they don't start taking out some of the anti's!!!

In the news story, it states that "mountain lion attacks, while still very rare, are much more common than they were 10 or 15 years ago."
Out of curiousity, does anyone know when the ban against hunting mountatin lions in CA was enacted?

I believe that as has already been said only the members of the victims families will change their opinions.
I know that in utah we have one of the fastest growing cat populations and still we aren't allowed to harvest them as much as we should.[:@]

I am sure that the attack will not change a thing. I live in the mountains of California and see there tracks all the time. When the deer migrate down out of the snow, comming on a fresh kill is not uncommon. The only way the law will be changed if some big wig politician's family member gets attacked. It's too bad it has to be that way. There are far too many cats in California, IMHO.

I think they should be hunted it isnt even the fact that they attacked people there are just so many in california something should be done about it. Especially if they cats are near residential areas.

Everyone here seems to being feeding fuel to the fire. You are saying that your wishing that they would eat antis. This is a public forum and even the antis can read these and say that all we are is killing freaks. Personally i wish the cats would get hungry for antis to change there minds, but if we keep saying that all we want them to do is thinn them out we could be starting our own problem. I have only seen one moutian lion in my life and that was crossing a road, but if they are as much as a problem as you guys are saying i think they should be hunted even if it was a limited hunt.
