Default 100 gr. broadheads big enough for elk?

I'm planning on elk hunting this September. Currently, I use 100 gr. Wasp Boss SST broadheads on GoldTip arrows while pulling 68 lbs. I was wondering if they would be heavy enough to get sufficient penetration on elk. If not, what type of broadheads should I use?

Yes the 100 grain wasps you are using are just fine for elk. You should have no problem at all with penetration. Don't be surprised when you get a pass through (provided you don't hit the shoulder blade).

My set up is not too eifferent from yours. I am shooting CE cx 300's at 29 1/2 inches with 100 or 125 grain heads, depending on which head they will favor. I plan on trying out a few like the stingers, boss sst's, slick tricks, and razor caps (if they ever get to the shelves).

Get something that has a little more A$$ to it and forget Wasp. I personally don't like them. Pick it up to a 125 Thunderhead or Muzzy. Bobby

I only use 100gr broadheads for hunting any big game .I use them for moose and they do a great job .I've used only cut on contact or fixed heads though . I don't think I would use Mechanical's on moose though ,I would only use Mechanical's on deer and smaller game .I do know that we have taken moose with mechanical's but it's just my personal opinion or preference.

Your GTG all I use is 100 grain broadheads for all my biggame hunting now(deer, moose, elk and bears) never had a problem with doing so. In the past I use to switch between 125 and 100 but that caused nothing but grief, no I just stick with a fixed or Cut on Impact quality head. I know a number of guys running the same type of set up that have taken both elk and moose. I switched to 100 gr cut on impact and just love the results they produce. I tried the Magnus stingers and used the steelforce premiums last year both have provide excellent flight, groups and pass throughs..if you want to try something new

a 100 grain broadhead will definitely do the job efficiently. I use 100 grain thunderheads and man did they do the job this year on a nice 5x5 bull elk. He only went about 30 yards. Arrow penetrated almost all the way through him. Good luck hunting.

Killed many bull elk, 100gr muzzy 3 blade always does the job for me! But make sure you get a double lung shot.

100 grain is fine. I prefer a cut on impact as the penetration seems better. I like the phantoms by muzzy and the modocs. The phantoms seem a little better as they have a bleeder.

We used 100's mechanical's and took down moose. So I'm sure they will be alright for elk. I don't use Mechanical's for moose but the guy's I'm with do.
