Default Aoudad Texas

Was lucky enough to draw a Aoudad tag in El Paso and made good first day. This was just a 3 day hunt so being picky wasn't much of an option. All free range, unguided and first time laying eyes on the base. Was a great experience and tune up for the New Mexico hunt coming up in Feb. Shot was 420 yards and was by far my longest shot on an animal with the old Rem 700 in 7 Mag.

I first spotted them after we had walked in a little over a mile up some pretty rugged terrain. Definity was not in shape for the climbing!! They were about 680 yrds out and way down in the bottom of the canyon. After many discussions we decided to hike over 1 hill and around a canyon and get pretty much on top of them. Before we could get around the canyon (more like a huge draw/cut) there was an explosion at a rock quarry on the other side of them a few miles away. This ended up spooking them and they ran right up the canyon we were trying to get around. I dropped to my belly and popped the bipod out. Had zero time to size them up. Had a few stop and one larger one in the group that ducked behind some rocks and continued up where there was no shot. This one had a pretty good limp and stopped just long enough to get a good shot on him.

I am also surprised but the good taste of the meat after all the things I read about it. To me it is a mild flavor that takes seasoning well.
