Default Wyoming non resident mule deer

I'll have 5 preference points going into next year. Is that enough to get me a good unit or should I plan a couple more years out?

I don't want to wait too long. Dad is 57. Great health(marathon runner) but you never know.

We want a unit with lots of public land and muleys. Trophy quality isn't important. Access is.

I'll add- we want mountains. Not open country. Want something a little different than antelope type hunting.

I don’t know enough about the area yet to give you a recommendation on a DIY unit. I can give you a good outfitter that takes zero/1 points to draw for pretty decent mule deer. It’s where I elk hunted east of Sheridan.

Wyoming also has general tags it seems like. That may be over the counter? I have to do some more reading on those. I do have points though. I think we're going to be looking at 2023 probably for our hunt. Really want to stay DIY for this one.

have to ask, are you dead set on WY?
as there are other places to hunt mule deer, that might net you a hunt without hassle of points needed!

OK well again there are places that don't need points, could save the WY points for some other time no?
but what ever, WY is a great state , best of luck to you's

I want to get my dad into a "good" unit before it's too late. So I don't want to put it off.

Next year is already out. So 2023 it is.

We will have 7 pts going into that season
