Looks like the elk in Montana are ramping up the rut action. Friends I have bow hunting on one of the ranches we lease say yesterday was wild up in the hills, one of the guys knocked down a 5 pt, that was actually with 2 bigger bulls, but couldn't get a shot at those two, heck any elk is a good elk, especially with a bow. They are seeing all kinds of elk right now, the biggest problem they are having is getting socked in by the rain and clouds which is making hunting tough at times. For their first time on the ranch they are doing pretty well, already talking about next year.....Ya gotta love the fall in Montana!

Guys dropped another bull, sad part is , they lost one bull Friday into Saturday, sounds like it may have been a flesh wound. Any one else out there seeing any action?

Elk? I think I know what they look like, haven't seen one, or heard one, one bow week left, then a 2 week break for gun to start. Talked to other hunters all saying it's been quiet. Have seen a couple come into town on trucks.

Yep, it has ben a different Sept for sure, I stopped by Slippery Ann along the Missouri breaks last Thursday, usually there would be hundred of elk, there was a handful. I have spoke to guys hunting the Crazy mnts also, slow, very little calling, talked to another group hunting the Little Belts, slightly more action, but by no means is it as active as prior years. Spoke to long time Montana hunter, says it is just a late year for many things, the antelope rut is about at it's peak, usually it would be over by now...
