Default Jicarilla Reservation Cow Elk Hunt

Hello all,

First post on the site so bear with me.

3 friends and I drew a hunt for cow elk on the Jic, reservation wide, in mid December. I have been doing some research and I know the very first thing we need to take care of is a good, quality guide. Does anyone have name and contact info for some guides they have personal experience with?

Second is Lodging. We were planning on the Casino or camping but I am open to suggestions. I would like to hear opinions on the casino and if anyone has camped out.

Lastly, I have never hunted that country before but I'm guessing my .270 WSM should do the trick for putting down a cow efficiently?

Thank you for your help!

I can't help you with anything other than to say your .270wsm will do fine.

I've read on some other reservations that require a
.30cal minimum. Might be something to check on.

Good luck

I’m headed up with my brother for the late December hunt. This is our first time doing this hunt and we are shooting 270 and 270wsm. My neighbor has gone a few times about 10 years ago and says anything over a 243 will be fine. I’m interested to get as much info as I can find as well.

Since no one on this forum seems to have any info it would be great if you guys could report back after your hunt and share some info

That way when future people search for this, there will be some valuable stuff in it.

I'm pretty sure that you use one of the Jicarilla Indian guides for those hunts. Here's a link with more info.Be sure to post some pictures when you get back.

Had a great hunt my guide went above and beyond for my brother and I. We saw some monster bucks and bulls, and plenty of cows every day. For some reason only the picture of my brothers cow will download.

Congratulations on the nice cows. Tell us a little about the hunt.

Are draw odds high for a cow tag or is it or hard to draw? Also, the guides are required to hunt the reservation I'm guessing? What all services did they provide?
