Default First elk hunt

I am planning my first elk hunt in October. If anyone could give some tips and info on a good unit to hunt I would appreciate it. I don't expect to kill a monster, but would like to put some meat on the table.

If you plan to hunt elk in October, you better already have your elk hunting permit in your possession. Where is that permit good for, what delimited area does it apply to?

Not necessarily. CO will have plenty of over the counter bull tags available but they will be for units with heavy pressure. I believe ID also issues over the counter elk tags but won't swear to it.

Flags: You are correct. I have never paid attention to the over-the-counter elk license process in Colorado. I have always hunted first season rifle. This is interesting that this exists. I am going to keep going first season, but it is nice to know this over-the-counter option exists.

This 6x5 bull was taken on an Oct over the season tag in 1996:
